Is there a DSL company or another cable company in your area? Talk to them and find out what introductory rates they have. Call Comcast and see if they can match or beat that offer (in both speed and price). If they won't, switch to the

I bought Land of Lisp when it first came out, but I just barely started reading through it a few nights ago (school keeps getting in the way). I believe the stated intention of the book was to teach any lisp (but the book uses common lisp)

I love racket. It's basically scheme with a bunch of extra goodness (libraries, language features) added on top. You may have heard of it before it was renamed (it used to be known as PLT Scheme). I've just started working through Land of

I haven't time to play around with Clojure yet, but what makes you think it is more practical than scheme? The primary advantages seem to be JVM interop (which I don't think would be applicable on in a Node.js setting), and easy multi-thre

In this case the question was "which phone do you desire?" I think that most people would answer that differently than "which phone do you plan to get."

By definition, a license that discriminates against commercial use would not be open source, if I understand correctly ( http://www.opensource.org/docs/osd ). That said, the GPLv3 would probably meet your needs well. It ensures that if any

I hope that's not true of a university like Stanford. I know it's not true for my school (which is nowhere near Stanford in terms of prestige or name-recognition).

I used to feel this way, but I've had a change of heart. Why shouldn't someone be able to express themselves by having bright pink text on a bright rainbow-unicorn background? It's not my cup of tea, but I bet it makes a bunch of people ha

Ok, I think I had this wrong and it looks like I've hit a limit on editing my post. Here's the right values (I hope): (All values are in /apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/Default): palette: #070736364242:#D3D301010202:#858599990000:#B5B5

agreed, but there is no mechanism for importing/exporting additional color schemes (I guess you could export an entire profile, but that entails quite a bit more than just color schemes).

I haven't looked into how one can export gnome-terminal color palettes yet, but if anyone else is interested, I think these are the correct settings in gconf: /apps/gnome-terminal/palette: #070736364242:#D3D336368282:#B5B589890000:#CB

Why do you prefer identi.ca to twitter? I don't use either, but I have been to both sites. Twitter looks nicer. I wish people did prefer identic.ca, it concerns me that so few popular websites are open-platforms.

This doesn't come as a surprise to me. I was super excited for the Galaxy Tab when I first heard about it, but the price point is way too high. A non-apple tablet needs to be much cheaper to beat the iPad (I was thinking $300 for the wifi

As far as android is concerned, I'm not sure that Linux experience provides any advantage. The libraries are all standard java stuff or android-proprietary. The development tools are also well supported on all platforms (AFAIK).
