Also, unless you are heavily invested in CL, most people actually can't afford to pay $600 on a compiler license per year.

Since you didn't say Common Lisp, i would suggest looking at racket: very powerful macro system with safety, support for static-type checking, contracts. Unlike common-lisp racket is mostly functional and has decent support for object-

Maybe it was the wrong term. My point was we have them and they are used, but they are not cost efficient in general. So saying that they will be the future of computing, is a bit ridiculous imo.

The author's so called analog computers can be built by using FPGAs. And the term he might be reaching for is called data-flow programming.

No, it isn't just because of the internet. You can download all the docs and source, and you can learn it in as much detail as you want. Googling was necessary because you were a beginner. And the tooling has gotten better, without the

Learning programming has gotten easier(for the better), because of better tools(finding bugs, debugging etc), better resources(you can google almost any beginner questions and very high probability, you find your solution). However, over

Thanks for the reference. A quick glance over that paper suggests they have a powerful capability system which tied with the objects provides the necessary abstraction. As such page objects themselves don't provide any benefits. In tha

File is an abstraction that provide a consistent semantics on what operations can be performed on a piece of arbitrary data/resource that the operating system can expose. Nothing prevents you from creating another layer of abstraction

time-travelling search can be done with recursion. Otherwise, i agree that they don't compose well with each other in some languages. However, it is harder to implement efficiently as far as i understand; time will tell if they are wid

You don't need to forsake any of that to get compile-time type checking.
