I enjoyed both the Lynch film and the books. Though I saw the film first... I thought the film captured the religious elements and emotional content of the book quite well. It obviously felt a lot out of course.

Pollution in Japan caused a number of issues in the 60s, things were probably starting to get better in the 70s when their environmental agency was formed, but no doubt issues remained. This maybe of interest as a reference: https:/&#

Minimal enforcement can be used to make everyone a criminal. You then selectively apply the law against people you don’t like. Taxation (I would hope) is not minimally enforced.

This is a big deal. Cryosleep is probably the most likely change to occur in our lifetimes that could bring about significant social change. Given that it slows your metabolism, I think it’s likely that we’ll be able to extend overall lifes

That sounds tough, happy to hear you made it through. I’ve seen quite a few families where one parent doesn’t do any childcare... that looks super tough, which is why I can forgive those parents sometimes zoning out and playing with their p

It easy to judge when you don’t know what else is going on in people’s lives... some parents are the sole carers of their kids and spend 16 hours a day looking after them. The park may be the only time in the day they get some downtime when

Yes, but have you ever looked after a 3 year old for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s hard work, and I doubt most people can maintain absolute focus on their kids all the time for that length of time...

Yes, I think we all recognize the dangers but this is absolutely true. I think when used correctly they can be amazingly helpful however. Looking after young kids is all about the long game. Caring for kids for up to 16 hours a day can be s

I’m interested in these, older, yet still active lesser known religions. Aside from this I’m aware of the Ahmadiyya and Baha’is (offshoots of Islam, but with distinct founders claiming to bring a revelation). They’re in the 5 to 10 million

You laugh? I guess it seems strange, but that’s quite a lot of money to some people. Totally justifiable that you wouldn’t find it worth the time... but some have to economize or came from a background where they have to count every penny.

Curious as to why China would want to block Callkit specifically. Is this just an easy way of saying “actually we don’t want apps with any kind of VOIP functionality and will eventually block you anyway”.

“don’t be evil” always seemed hopelessly naive, even for college students. I’d have thought that anyone who had considered it, even briefly would understand that being “evil” isn’t really a thing. People do things for various reasons, even
