Regarding the decommission of the nuclear plants in Germany: I don't understand why they are shutdown early, because the major CO2 investment happens during construction. So wouldn't it make sense to leave the active nuclear plant

well, what about a m1 mac mini then and the LG 27" inch 5K screen? or for now, buy a used iMac?

No, I assume an actor or actress despises being secretly watched, too.

That would be the Mac Mini. But seriously, I share your opinion on laptop keyboards: regular function keys please.

Thank you very much for your hint. So far, it seems that the downgrade did not succeed. The boot ROM number is still the same after the manual patch.

Does anyone know how to downgrade the firmware of my Macbook Pro 15" (2014)? I ran the Big Sur Beta 1 with it on an external SSD drive. Since then, the standby mode on the internally installed macOS 10.11 does not work anymore. At some

Indeed, Acrobat rendering is vastly superior in that respect. Thank you for that mentioning that. Apart from the Acrobat solution, on macOS 10.11, it is possible to turn off text smoothing in Preview.app's PDF settings (which retains s

Using a macro lens, I took photographs of text on macOS 10.11. I don't know where your statement is originated. But here, the text is indeed displayed with subpixel rendering – on a Retina display.

    by xenonite 6y ago

Yes, I am running at the "correct" 2x Retina resolution, indeed. I understand your suspicion, and I confirm that deviating from that yields worse results. Actually, the requirement to stay with the 2x is a reason I dislike macOS 1

Indeed. On the other hand, all Mac displays and almost all external desktop displays provide the RGB pattern. Otherwise, there is still the option to disable the sub pixel antialiasing.

I was not aware of that. On the other hand, I am mainly looking at static text with opaque background (including PDFs). At least there, the subpixel hinting would benefit the keen readers' eyes.

Thank you for your explanations. I particularly like your comment on down scaling the triple resolution. Actually I am using a Retina display. I’m still noticing the difference very much. Hence I don’t think subpixel rendering would be only

I still don't understand how the removal of subpixel rendering in macOS 10.14 is not yet reversed. I can visually relax much more when I work on my 10.11 El Capitan systems.
