A friend of mine who lives in Tokyo told me that in Japan it's near impossible to transfer money from one bank to another. He told me the way Japanese people transfer money between banks was to draw the cash out in one and pay it in to

These days??? How quick we forget the iPhone 4 that didn't work as a phone when held due to shielding issues.

Maybe they should build the FB browser that can only access facebook.com and amazon, completing the consumer cycle.

This is no real surprise. It's apparent when they show the replays during a boxing match, the punches look much much worse than they do in real-time. Not to mention all the punches that you miss due to the speed of the action.

Mostly yes. Perhaps the thing to note is that the Disruptor moves the logic for manipulating the the indices outside of the ringbuffer itself. Allowing multiple independent consumers to exist. The idea behind he Disruptor is to move data be

The article doesn't seem to consider that London may become more attractive to the financial sector. You know what banks hate? Regulation, you know what the EU has loads of .... that's right regulation. The UK will be able to offe

If you think of it as a cash flow it helps. I remember the first Nvidia card I was given (as you needed to test your game on a variety of graphics cards). This is back in the day of 3DFX, PowerGL, you know when there was actual competition

This is cool without a doubt. However it's fairly well understood that Nvidia have gfx's tech about 5 years ahead of current market level. This allows them to eek out small increments to customers and stay ahead of the curve. It&#

I think this has been mentioned before on HN. Finger prints, retina scans, brain scans are not passwords, they're userid's. If the scanner could read a password out of my head then it would be a password. But merely knowing it

Feels like King come up against a significant wall of resentment when they do anything, perhaps some of it justified some of it not so much. Defold seems like a nice idea. As with any games engine it's never about the quality of the en

I've owned a XU4 for over a year now. It's been a great piece of kit (once I disabled the fan that is). For me the biggest advantage over the Pi is the extra memory. Especially if you plan to develop any sort of Java services.

I have a XU4 and the only reason I got it was for the 2gb of ram. I don't need 8 cores and I certainly didn't need a fan. I'll be getting a C2. Does anyone know if the USB ports are fully powered on the C2? As I can power a U

Sadly it is true, MAC GPU's are often the same hardware used in laptops. Also, Apple sprinkle a special kind of awfulness onto their drivers. I tested this with Quake III (a game from 1999!). My 2011 iMac could not render the game at 1

I don't think the claim of zero performance penalty for calloc is true. If for example you're calling calloc on a game console it is 100% not true.

This is a really interesting point, I was caught out by this during an update. All of a sudden my REST client broke. Took a little digging to find out Apple had enabled HTTPS by default. Given this, it would seem odd that you would need to

I love DDG but I think as the world turns away from document indexing and more toward intent based search, plus the ever increasing use of implicit data (gps location, speed of movement etc) - I can't see how DDG are going to grow. Ult

I think the best part of 'modern c++' is the fact that you don't have to use any of it (I'll make a concession for move constructors, that just makes sense).

Why don't all these languages fold down to the same FPU add and hence produce the same output (on the same hardware)? Are you telling me they implement their own version of the IEEE float standard? Surely that way madness lies.

I recoil from this idea as it pushes further in the direction of free play homogenized games. Cloud graphics seems like a subscriptions based nightmare, or a world where the game no longer works after 5 years as the cloud services no longer
