This is what happens when a company contracts someone for $9/hr and says "Make me something like [url] for my site".

I connected my facebook, put in the URL for my site and hit "Test"... and it took me to another registration page. Awesome.

An automatic wire stripper. I was at a convention center and it seemed like such a scam (one of those douchey salesman). I threw out the money for it because it wasn't too expensive and seemed neat. One of the most enjoyable tools I have to

I like your second idea. This will vary so drastically from app to app. For some apps you might need the designer to make a logo and a few images (assuming you use out of the box icons). That could be a 95/5 split on effort. A game or super

This is a great idea in my opinion. Every time someone posts a project here everyone says "CHARGE MORE!". I think I remember people telling some guy with a jQuery plugin for giving website walk throughs to charge like $20 a month or somethi

I think that everyone felt really smart the first time they "got" recursion. Then that feeling has followed them around but switched position assuming that someone isn't smart UNLESS they get recursion. I think recursion is a really clever

Man, I've been working on my iOS client for hacker news for like three weeks. When I started there were already like 5 in the store, since then I've seen three people announce the ones they wrote on here. sigh I'm going to release mine an

Agreed. If I get stuck on something and nothing I try makes it work properly I'll go shower or take a bath. 90% of the time just relaxing and getting away from it will be enough to make something click.

I've found some pretty amazing templates/themes while doing iOS development. Between that and emulating apps I like, I do OK.

Oh man, I know. I would be furious. Now you have to somehow justify that $10k trip by forcing yourself to make search sound cool and draw views. Now you have to spend your time trying to figure out WHY this feature is worth anyone caring ab

I'm on the same page as you. This is like Google doing a press release because it changed the search algorithm on gmail. It's kind of underwhelming.

I think it would be done fairly frequently with HTML5 games or stand alone tools like he was talking about. If it had zero back end then it would cost nothing for someone to just rip and host on their own site. People do it with flash games

I know how you feel. I think it's kind of a combinations of things. I can MAKE things. I can do it quickly and make pretty cool products. Unfortunately, I do a lot of it by searching online. Even if I'm writing my own code and not copying f

No, I'm not saying you have to make a point but you have to at least make sense. What you said meant nothing to me, so I was asking for clarification, but you're obvious not looking for communication here.

The problem is that other programmers don't care about posts like that, so they'd never be read. Or if they do read them it'll just be to tell you how completely idiotic you are for taking that long to figure that problem out. Or that they

Did you want people to e-mail you their ideas? E-mail you an introduction and their background/skills/etc? Shouldn't you put your contact info somewhere? Are you associated with hmexx or just one upping him?

Agreed. $5k to hack on a personal project for 2 months isn't really a ton of risk. Especially because OP didn't really put any huge requirements on this. It doesn't have to be a gigantic project (well, ideally at least, I'm not sure what he

Neat idea. Personally I think it's a good opportunity for guys like me who have a ton of ideas but half implement them, or implement them and never market. Sure, 50% is a large chunk for doing "all of the work" but I don't have to worry abo

If you expect to have to do any iOS development (even using the C# cross over) you'll have to have a mac, which is kind of obvious. I love the hardware of my macbook pro, but being a windows user my whole life took plenty of awkward forehea

What framework are you using? I found CodeIgniter to be pretty helpful. PHP as a language is kind of frustrating because there's so little consistency in it. I usually just keep a second window up to the PHP manual and search a lot. Just go
