The local thai cafe is "pretty good". I was also struck by how good the wifi was in most of the dining places I went to. Ran around, past santa's post box, and the seed vault, snowshoed up trollstein (spelling?), had great fu

I've found a happy medium, where I use sql-migrate to build the database, and go-jet to generate the table/model structures for use in go, and go-jet's syntax is reasonably close to SQL that it's easy enough for expressi

I initially thought that this was only affecting RAIDZ groups, but it looks like it also affects RAIDZ2 groups? Can someone confirm this? After the expansion completes, old blocks remain with their old data-to-parity ratio (e.g. 5-wi

You could almost shorten it to: if r, err := os.Open(src); err != nil { return err } defer r.Close() But then r is not in scope for the r.Close proper

It's a shame, my SO (completely not in IT related work) does enjoy reading my ACM magazines, and despite being in very different industries, we do see and share quite similar experiences. Perhaps it's time I obtain one of those A4

A good engineering manager should be like a warrior in a garden; mentoring and fostering the engineers, and ready to go to "battle" for them at a moment's notice.

OK this was too long and painful to read (esp with the background issues). My 2 cents on why you should like Iain M. Banks (for SciFi, aka Iain Banks for fiction, RIP): - AI ships with cool names

I used to enjoy playing lightgun games with my SO on the PS2, so was devastated when new consoles seemingly no longer had light gun games. Thankfully, the oculus quest 2 has pistol whip etc. Would be interesting to see how those are proce
