I did some testing yesterday. It used to be if you blocked 17.0.0.0/8 (or a more restrictive subset for OCSP) on your router, it would take ~30 seconds to open a program. It's a lot faster now. The only thing that really leaps out

Maybe. My awareness of it primarily came from this and other tech-minded sites, I'm not exactly sure what the media was saying about it. I understood the privacy protections but still found the features positively horrifying. I stopped

It's been a while since I used it, lord knows I hate the interface but if it does all of that, I'll try it again soon.

That does look interesting and I was unaware of it so thanks for the link. I'm thinking more like a privacy first, linux based Apple TV / Android TV / Fire TV replacement. Sort of like the FreeTube linux app, but designed for

I love all of the activity around this, but I just moved to Newpipe after Youtube Vanced went down. You know what I would love is a set top box for PeerTube/Odysee/Bitchute/Whatever with a simple remote control. And a way to

Note "nearer to collapsing than it appears" can be interpreted to mean "in the recent past" which seems accurate to me. I'd put it sometime around Trump's election - not because of it, but that was a key accele

It's really tough, I think people care but most feel completely overwhelmed by the scope of it and have just become jaded. Every time I try bringing it up with a friend, they all say some version of "yeah I know, it's really

That's a fair point. In my mind I was immediately transported to the CSAM/NeuralHash debate from last year. I will slow down.

The theory is they were going to use this tech to finally enable E2EE iCloud Photos and reactionary privacy absolutist psychopaths who didn't understand how it works -- such as myself -- made a big ruckus and spoiled everything. Also a

I don't think it's far fetched at all, that they'd do that without mentioning it. It certainly phones home when you open Preview [1], what's another little ping when you're looking at CSAM or whatever else they&#x

Not something I'd have looked for as my ISP does not have that issue, but yeah, that's a killer feature.

That's true, the ACLs are pretty huge. I've heard about Tailscale almost exclusively in the context of /r/selfhosted, and this post is about the free plan which guided my response. It's not hard to see why this woul

I can see that it's easier to setup for someone who doesn't know how to use WireGuard, but not how it would benefit me personally. I guess SSO is nice. I think it's more like... "What's the value in Dropbox when I&#

I've wondered this as well. Everyone seems to rave about it, but I run my own wireguard and don't find it too hard to add devices to the network. I think maybe you can use it to expose certain things to the internet easily? I don&

Haha, fair enough, hadn't thought of that scenario. That is pretty insane to expect a free service to provide that in perpetuity.

The service itself is not expensive. For example, my ISP offers it for free, so does my registrar. They're effectively selling an overpriced software subscription (to gmail) and threat of lock-in is at least some part of the marketing

Ah, interesting, I've actually never waited to see if it syncs eventually or not. I am slow rolling my move from 1Password, about 70% moved over. Every time I go to login somewhere and there's no Bitwarden entry, I copy that login

For my money it's hollow virtue signaling, not racism, but he's referring to OPs original post, that Agile Bits removed 1Password from the Russian play store.

Moved to Bitwarden + Vaultwarden. It's pretty good! Firefox plugin doesn't work in private browsing. Browser plugins don't auto-sync. Other than that, I was pretty happy to ditch 1password as Agile Bits circles the drain.

No, the top parent here is FUD. Never give the TV itself access to the internet. Firestick would work for modern DRM, as would apple tv, a computer plugged into HDMI, etc.

The legality is entirely beside the point, although of note, in the case I referenced the Supreme Court found in a 7-2 decision that it was in fact legal to refuse to bake a cake for that particular gay wedding while being careful not to se
