Frustrating. We've build the environment ( dealt with the supply side ) but we can't bootstrap the demand. Parents are fundamentally opposed to the idea of their kids starting their career before they have the degree.

DJ could use a update to be fully Rails 4.2 compatible. I'd love a PR for that and would merge. https://github.com/tobi/delayed_job

While there are no billion dollar revenue businesses on Shopify yet, it's really easy to underestimate the size of many of it's stores. Also I'm not sure what percentage you are referring to, we don't take one. We make a

The comments about the init process are true. It makes sense to run a proper PID1 system here such as runit. I'd argue with the rest of the post. The problem is that phusion makes the common mistake of thinking of containers as faster

All three are complimentary. At Shopify we use all three for slightly different things. * Splunk searches the log files and sends alerts * NewRelic is our always running systems profiler and our primary source for spotting performance

Kafka is an integral part of Shopify's infrastructure. It's brilliant but under appreciated technology. A full company, scalable event bus like this can totally revolutionize the way you build services.
