Man. I really want a pinball machine. But they’re just so expensive. Though I had kinda ruled out building a virtual pinball machine. This article has convinced me to reconsider. Can anyone recommend a guide? I’m a pinball newbie but not a

I feel like “putting wifi in my home” is similar to “putting bodies that emit heat in my home”. Neither of which implicitly grant law enforcement to come and observe either through the walls of my home. I am not a lawyer, nor am I familiar

Reading through the comments of other people having similar problems makes me question if this is at all related to the specific issue. But I think it's worth bringing up anyway: When I first started using PiHole, the default filters w

If I had to start up a new web-service right now I would reach for Java + Spring Boot. Boot gets you running fast, and since I use Java for my day job I’m very familiar with the ecosystem. I’ve been out of the loop for C# for a while (only

ULIDs have made our MySql caches breathe a sigh of relief. One place we're avoiding ULIDs (and other counters) is in publicly-facing IDs. Preferring random to help keep them unguessable. (say what you will about security-through-obscur

It runs fine offline. You can’t run it offline AND multiplayer, however. They took LAN away with the remaster.

It's for security. Checking against a list of banned URLs, etc. When you have user-submitted content, protecting your users from bad URLs is important. Also, I'm sure they're doing plenty of click tracking too :)

I absolutely agree. My point was more that using Saw Stop as an illustration of the broken system is a poor one. Because I think the patent on physical tech enabled a real disruption to the status-quo. Allowing "the little guy" to

I actually think that Sawstop (in general. Might be some details that are bogus) is a great example of the patent system working as intended. The inventor reached out to several saw makers to license his new invention. None of them took it

I've had a few moments with ChatGPT that are great anecdotes similar to your own: - Asked it to generate a MadLib for me to play that was no more than a paragraph long. It produced something that was several paragraphs wrong. I told it

Do you know a good place to shop for new-in-box pinball machines? A few weeks ago I poked around on eBay and Google. And mostly found cheap digital ones or other cabinets similar to the arcades you can get at Walmart.

I feel like this can be applied to most fields. Do you need an IDE to write, for example, Java or C#? No. But it sure is nice! And you can do some pretty cool code analysis and refactoring with some good tools. Do you need a jointer, a plan
