It's extra tough to know what to do on that situation if you don't know the provenance of the timestamp, because there are some programs that output timestamps formatted like a POSIX TZ, but with the opposite sign convention.

I never noticed that that guy's name is "Chesley". I wonder how often he gets people thinking that's a typo for "Chelsey" or something of that nature.

Something like a proper authentication protocol would be useful for sure, but I would bet good money that the government would roll out some weird homebrew nonsense that would be compromised in hours. Not to make the perfect the enemy of th

The problem to me seems like they are only offering political / locational zones. It does not seem like it would be a significant step backwards to offer an option to set your time zone to a manual fixed offset, which is all the people

I think you have this exactly backward. Learning during college is a side effect. You are paying for the degree mostly as a costly signal. If you want to learn but don't care about a degree, there are much better and cheaper ways than

I liked TeX for typesetting my thesis, but I feel like, looking back, it would be nearly impossible to convert my document to a reflowable format. Not sure what can be done about that if you want nice typesetting in a fixed size environment

Well, I don't need it now because I'm off Windows permanently, and I would use Python 3.x even if I were, but it's good to know that something like this is available. I was sorta wondering if the situation had changed since I

Why do you need to patent them rather than just publish the idea? One there is prior art you can't get a patent in an idea (simplifying).

Is there no UI notifying you that a user's keys have changed in Signal? If so, the central server would need to send compromised keys on day 1, which would be detectable when you check the key signature.

The researchers generally pay money, often thousands of dollars, to the journals in order to publish their work there. I have literally never heard of a situation where a researcher makes money by charging for access to their research.
