This is an editorialized title and as far as I know it's not even accurate. The author maintains, but did not create coverage.py. (Edit: Original title has been changed, so this comment is no longer necessary.)

I think gwern is saying that the parent post is missing the point of the "surprising" metric, not missing the point of Infinite Jest.

I've read it and I found it to be the most useful book on writing I've read so far, because he grounds his advice in clear linguistic principles and he is mostly not prescriptivist in his advice. His advice about keeping an easy-t

I find it easier to compartmentalize my browsing with Chrome profiles than with Firefox tabs. I was really disappointed with the container tabs feature because it seemed like it was designed to do what I already do with Chrome profiles, but

That appears to be the current xkcd comic (published 2019-07-31), but the github for this application has commits going back a month, with the domain registered on 2019-07-06, so I think it is likely a coincidence or the inspiration goes th

I think your concept of "dynamic" and "static" is exactly backwards from mine. datetime specifies an API (tzinfo) for dynamic objects, so that a single object provides the time zone information for many datetimes. pytz&#

The experience you are describing reminds me of the comparative illusion [0], which is a grammatical illusion where certain sentences seem grammatically correct when you read them, but upon further reflection actually make no sense, example

Ah, my mistake. I know that CPython and matplotlib both have a lib/ directory, but you're right that that's where they keep the Python code and they keep the C code in Modules/ and src/, respectively. Also I may hav

For C extensions, the most common layout I've seen is to put C code under lib/ (regardless of whether you are using a src/ layout).

I wouldn't be surprised if it's true for parts of New York other than NYC. New York is a very high-tax and regulation-heavy state. NYC is a big enough draw to overcome that, but I don't think Buffalo is similarly attractive j

I think the op's point is that it was not necessary to invent a new programming language for this. You could write a library for existing languages (probably with a custom entry point) that does the same thing, but without a new and co
