Last time this came up on HN, I thought folks were saying that even Brother had started to go down the dark path. I'm not seeing that sentiment here now, though. Personally I love the Brother printer I've had for ~13 years now.

The idiom is with “but,” but I think the joke is it’s going to be so pervasive that it’ll definitely be included in sinks too. There are already smart sinks so it’s pretty much inevitable.

The loss of Harry Mack’s Omegle Bars was the first thing that came to mind for me.

I believe in our case it was a compiler bug, because it only happened for a few versions of ifort and was eventually fixed. But it scared us off from using -O3.

Using -O3 was resulting in correctness problems in my work codebase in the past. Nowadays the compiler (ifort) crashes when using -O3 for some reason.

Which one did you get? I've been looking to get one recently but have heard that they're kind of a crapshoot and not very polished in UX.

So long as the parts last long enough for you to reproduce, the trait won't get selected for/against and evolved away.

I really can't even play Tetris anymore because of the Tetris Effect. Picturing falling blocks literally keeps me awake at night after I play.

Agreed completely. “Lunch and learns” and “brown bags”. I didn’t appreciate my old employer frequently co-opting my lunch breaks with more work.

Could you share what sort of prompt you used (less all your private data, of course)?

Tangentially related: I went to a Hasan Minhaj live show that had a phone check, except you kept your phone on you in a locked cloth bag that they unlock when you leave. Interesting concept I hadn't seen anywhere else.

Do you happen to have a script for this? If so, I’d love to have it as it’s about time I reroll too.

One thing I really like about having my resume in LaTeX is I can have a ton of bullet points always in the file commented out, and just uncomment the most fitting ones for each specific job application.

It shouldn’t need to be a company policy, you’d think a competent engineer would simply do due diligence in naming their project. I remember searching for name clashes for a project I wrote solo when I was ~13 years old in the early 2000s.
