I'm fine with most researchers pursuing a particular direction, but I get concerned when incentives align that provide a significant pressure for them to research what they wouldn't naturally want to research. It seems like there

I'm curious how many households this would support, taking into account usage distributions over time. Would this be sufficient for a medium city? A large town?

I guess I'm skeptical. This sounds more like an optimization of current technology than something along the lines of vacuum tubes -> transistors.

Why do the eyes in the generated images always look a little off? Most facial features usually appear photorealistic to me, but the eyes always have a little smudge or something in them that gives them away.

Yeah, the fact that these models are necessarily based on existing works leaves me hopeful that humans will remain the leaders in this space for the time being.

Shameless plug - I wrote sdf-csg[1] as an attempt to have that cake and eat it too. Basically, build things out of SDFs, then create meshes out of them for efficient rendering. [1] https://github.com/wwwtyro/sdf-csg

Make it mobile so that I can use it as a mouse without taking my hands off the keyboard, and I'll go through the trouble of learning to use it. Could even make both halves mobile so that I can use each one as an independent mouse.

I've updated the examples to account for the device pixel ratio, it'll probably look better now.

Yeah, I neglected to account for device pixel ratio in the examples, so they will probably look blurry; I'll need to go back and fix those.

The author, Mikola Lysenko, is a remarkable engineer. He's wildly prolific, but my favorite project of his is regl[1], which is an unparalleled WebGL library. I think it might be the best-in-class example of all OpenGL libraries, thoug
