I am pleased to learn this, actually. I enjoy the music of death metal but the lyrics seem so cliche, so…laughably childish…that I’d appreciate some recommendations to something with some…erm…meat.

While I could make the same reply to almost every comment in this thread I have chosen yours at random. I believe you are conflating the goal of "spending less" (which is hard) with a simpler goal "knowing more about how I sp

The research is on your side. Spending cash makes you spend less. Most respondents to your comment are making a category of error that is common in our Internet age: "I have more information, therefore I am making better decisions.&quo

I find these almost laughably stupid. An eight year old boy might find them neat because they’re gross, but surely this is the lowest form of use the English (or any) language can see?

Agreed. I called because I need a human to fix my problem. If it could have been fixed on the website I would have fixed it there.

This attitude has always confused me. “Firefox did something I didn’t like so I switched to a browser which does hundreds of things to undermine the free and open internet”.

If the market can be relied upon to determine the winners, it must also be relied upon to determine the losers. I support the "no M&A" policy.

For me the barrier to working at Facebook is the fact their product is causing so much harm in our world, from elections to the environment to mental health to the breakdown of social capital. I know I’ll be downvoted for taking an ethical

Enforcement is not the solution because it requires constant vigilance. Road design is because you can build the road in a way that brings about the speed/safety envelope you desire, and then it always works correctly whether anyone is

Less congestion means vehicles can reach higher speeds which means more fatal accidents. Congestion generally works to keep vehicle speeds slower and therefore safer.

Agreed. And I'm in the same boat. But I've taken the "best time to plant a tree was 40 years ago" approach and have started working in my community to bring about those changes.

Cars don't and can't scale and we waste staggering amounts of space and infrastructure on what would be better utilized and more profitably spent on walkability.

3 hours commutes or destroying the environment aren't the only two options. By changing the way we build cities, and by retrofitting the ones we've already built, we can make places where the walked/biked commute is less than
