Some additional thoughts: Bounce it off a "normal" person, not a person who blogs, twitters, codes, or designs. Just regular Joe. Do the mom test w/ your idea. Do they like it? Understand it? Get a prototype up and show it to all your frien

EarthBrowser is awesome. I looked at it not too long ago and thought it was very impressive.

You don't need lots of cash to do a web startup - for many anyways. What's hard to find is the time unless you want to drop everything and focus on that. My other main problem is finding people. It is a herculean task to find someone willin

I agree. The key is to move forward. The way I see it is that it's a journey, and no matter how long it takes, as long as I put at least one foot forward a day, no matter how small a step, it takes me closer to the destination. I might not

I don't think it's programmers per se. Companies just don't think of design as part of the solution package. I've worked at many companies where you have new web projects and applications and we spend so much time architecting the solution

This is very true. If your mindset is not ready for it, it will just be noise much like your parents' advice when you were a teenager. I think entrepreneurial classes should be part of university curriculum as well as personal finance. I kn

Speaking from personal experience this is totally true but needs to be investigated more. The whole negotiation system in asian flea markets is based on this. If the recruiters perceive that you want and need this job, then they feel they h

While you and I may be financially educated and well versed, many people are not. The only reason credit card companies make money is because there are people who don't understand how credit card companies work and make only minimum payment

I also have some experience w/ Yelp in this matter with the martial arts schools I teach out of. I've even blogged about it a while back http://blog.pekpongpaet.com/2008/06/25/yelpcom-stop-being-ev... Basically tons of genuine reviews (we

I love this post. As a hacker myself I can relate. I did not do much while at school - that pretty much took all my time. Also, "regular" sports did not appeal to me. I started taking up martial arts as soon as I started working and it has

Just a little clarification on the site - it's just going to feature cool stuff for women. It doesn't necessarily have to be stuff to buy. Basically anything a fashionista would think is cool and worth sharing. This can be a site, a movie,

I'm from Chicago as well and I also find it hard for even my friends to understand why I would bother doing a startup. The people who do understand or relate are fellow tech startups of which there are quite a few actually.
