No satellite has ever had to do an environmental impact study -- the FCC/FAA has a blanket waiver for everyone. The FCC does regulate debris and re-entry hazards. Constellations like SpaceX's have much more strict rules than GEO s

Many space telescope discoveries are followed up on with ground telescopes. Kepler and TESS planets are not confirmed until a second telescope sees the dip, and that's cheapest to do with ground telescopes.

Also the number went way up, and the orbits changed. And the FCC has no rules about light pollution. Which is the reason we should have a global debate about it. Radio astronomers did complain right away and got a sensitive part of the Ka b

Wow, those dastardly astronomers, hogging something that somehow isn't part of the commons. They should learn how to share! How about letting astronomers use the night sky every Tuesday?

It's usually called the 'tragedy of the commons'.

"They"? Are astronomers a uniform community in which the entire profession is responsible for every stray comment someone makes?

Yep! Never thought about it that way, but indeed, PowerPC was a smaller not-server chip intended for personal computers.

Isn't hindsight awesome? Even though your first bit of advice was implemented on day 1 (the modem is on a separate card), it's still expensive to replace it.

So you're saying that existing cars, where it's in the dashboard, can be modified for almost nothing to put this card someplace else? Edit: I mean, hindsight is great when you're designing a new car, and Tesla did make it muc

Intel doesn't have much of a foundry business -- they build for themselves -- so if anything this increases competition in the foundry business, if Intel follows up by letting GloFo customers use Intel's best fabs.

We could also (radical though there) put a price on negative externalities, so the market would do the right thing. That will do a lot for the natural preferences of consumers.
