Oh interesting, I didn't know that. I guess I'll leave my comment for the next person that has the same inclination as myself.

The title of the article is "So this is why Siri is way behind the Google Assistant and Alexa". The submission title should be changed.

I don't believe it is just one thing. I believe the observed shape of galaxies is another problem that is dark matter is a proposed solution. Edit--- I was just reading more and there is also the fact that galaxies stay together at all

Galaxies are distributed throughout a volume of space, they don't even exist on a single plane. Edit: here is a video which clearly shows the orientations of rotation are not aligned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14y

Forgive me, I'm sort of thinking out loud here. I like the idea of trying out new languages/frameworks using this. I would be concerned building any serious projects using Repl though. I'm worried about how much 'lock in

I've actually never even tried to understand people's issue with tables. I think there are important places to take stands in my life and I guess that <table> isn't one of them. I'm more of a "generalist"

Just to make sure I understood, that link is a collection of hand-picked papers? I expected it to be a review article, summarizing a bunch of past work. Just wanted to be sure that I was looking at the right thing.

You could also allow yourself to exist in a gray area where you find this interesting but do not believe you know the exact truth.

I was also curious about the use of 'neural networks' in deep learning or whatever. My PhD research was working on problems in computational neuroscience. I think the use of "neural networks" is because the topology of t

I was thinking the same thing. Also not claiming to have any real idea of as to what they are actually doing but certainly having access to everyone's phone gives them a ton of distributed computing power for free.

I built one small web-app that required payment processing. I tried out both Stripe and Braintree and actually wound up going with Braintree. I was really surprised but their documentation for integration in a Ruby on Rails app at that time

I'll see your anecdote and call with mine: I live in Atlanta and I can't think of a single person that doesn't use some app to order delivery anymore. Do you live in a city or just know people who live in cities.

I agree but I think a similar question would be: how would this ever be enforced on a US based company/website where it had a EU visitor. I wrote this in another comment but I think outside of just blocking your site in the EU, they wo

This is exactly what I was coming to HN to query about. Without some agreement with the US federal government, I don't believe they would have any mechanism of enforcement that would affect your business in the U.S. I imagine they coul

What types of difference in quality do you see? I'm not a chocolate connoisseur but it is interesting. I do pay premiums for coffee and cigars though. :)

$85k adjusted for CPI is something like $113k today. Microsoft is in Redmond not Seattle. Hard is certainly relative but living in the suburbs of Seattle, fresh out of college making $113k is nearly objectively not hard.

I think disagree with the parent comment and you. For reference, there appear to be two definitions of bargain: 1.an agreement between two or more parties as to what each party will do for the other. 2. a thing bought or offered for sale mo

"Huge sums of money" isn't well defined so I can't comment on that. But the idea that $85K is only enough to cover rent and other expenses is wrong.

I am way out of my depth here but I've read a couple of articles recently talking about the migration of homo sapiens out of Africa possibly occurring far sooner than was previously thought [1]. That was the first one I could remember.

"Primary actions should be obvious. Solid, high contrast background colors work great here." If you made the primary action a button without a background than you did not do what was suggested in this article.
