In any cost comparison I have done, Google comes out ahead of AWS, followed by Azure.

Competition in the cloud space is a beautiful thing. I really hope we don't end up with Amazon being a monopoly provider. Now if they could all lower network egress pricing I'd be really happy.

Why don't they build in a simple fail safe on the Nest? That is, have a user settable manual switch that fails to "heat on" if there is no response from the main unit. The house would be quite hot - but probably much less dam

Part of the challenge is that PasS platforms have quite a bit of vendor lock in. I can foresee the growth of do-it-yourself PaaS, built on Docker, Kubernetes, etc.

There is a do-until loop: https://docs.ansible.com/ansible/playbooks_loops.html#id22 Which satisfies the infinite loop issue. Have not looked carefully at the dynamic allocation, but I am guessing (hand waving here....

Dart is a pretty nice language, and practically speaking I don't think it's "weaker" (optionally typed) system is a concern. The vast majority of Dart libraries are typed, giving you all of the benefits (compile time ty

Network egress costs on AWS appear to be a factor of 10x more than dedicated servers. Google GCE is pretty much the same. That is a lot of negotiation that needs to be done. Will they get anywhere close to that kind of discount? How big a

What I really wish the cloud providers would do is reduce network egress costs. They seem insanely expensive when compared to dedicated servers.

What bother me is the hand waving about fixing the bad effects of inequality without offering any concrete proposals of how that might happen. Practically speaking, how do you reduce poverty, provide better health care and education without

I found this while doing some research on hosting costs on AWS and GCE. Network egress does appear to be very expensive on the big cloud providers. In contrast, compute cycles seem more reasonable for what you get. Still more expensive th

"In communist societies everyone had very similar income" I really don't think that was the case. In a practical sense, communist regimes were the extreme endgame of inequality. Those at the very top of the chain lived like k

Capitalism does a fine job at some things, but there are areas where governments deliver better outcomes. Single payer health care is a good example. We should strive to avoid dogma and choose the best available solution.
