I used to agree with this, but the proliferation of Javascript made me realize that newer/better programming languages were already not coming to save us.

You're supposed to work as hard as you can, then cheat for the grade.

I had a Rails job and slipped back into node, and it's so sad. Node is in a sad state compared to Rails. They don't even know what a framework looks like.

It's because Datomic has a confusing new model, and suffers from the same beginner unfriendliness as the rest of Clojure. It's a language aimed at experienced old school programmers, and doesn't aim to be friendly to younger

This totally isn't true. Some languages make refactoring easier and some make it harder. FP languages make it easier

Imagine feeling bad for the CIA in this day and age. They deserve what they get.

This is absolutely a work of propaganda the CIA worked on.

I used a few electron apps in a browser because the Linux experience wasn't working well for me, and it was a dramatically better experience.

This is exactly what I learned in a philosophy of science course in college. Not this specific topic, but that approach. Science is a model, and as soon as you're generalizing past experiments and observations, you're outside of

I was recently in Spain and this was the only kind of building I encountered that wasn't a palace or bureaucracy building. It fostered such a sense of being in the middle of something alive and it spread out for miles in every directio

I usually use Clojure, Huff for html templating, and whatever DB libs. Pretty much whatever is in Biff[1] is what I want to use. [1] https://biffweb.com/

There are songs I like, but I would hesitate to use the phrase "spoke to me". I can't parse lyrics from songs without intense focus, and as I said I can't usually focus on songs. Usually songs are just noise to me, and

I'm definitely neither. Music has always been just background noise for me. I can't sit and listen to anything by itself. It doesn't keep my interest.

The real takeaway here is that you should read the manuals for all your appliances. I've learned a lot about them.

Changing and refining Clojure code is a remarkably pleasant experience. There's very little state, so you can usually just grab what sexp you need and extract it.

I don't have data on this, but I've got a lot of friends who are trying to have kids right now and really struggling. How much of a declining birth rate is tied to disruptions in average human fertility?

This seems like a common way that to me completely side steps the actual question. Sure, your brain powers intelligence, but nothing we have nothing on how it could create awareness, which seems qualitatively different.

What I find so frustrating in these conversations is exactly this mismatch. There's nothing special about the wavelength that creates the color red, but the color red is completely distinct from that. They're barely even related!

I'm sympathetic to panpsychism, but it isn't obvious to me that intelligence should be what's behind awareness. I've been blackout drunk before, and my brain was capable of intelligence, I got home just fine, but I had n

I feel like this is really dependent on what you understand by "capitalism". Pretty sure the Marxists in the Communist Party of China would not consider what they do there capitalism.
