My understanding is this is for those situations where parents say "call when you get there". As a kid, I always meant to but often forgot. Fwiw, most of the time in hs my parents knew more or less where I was but not specifically

Majority judgment or judgment voting is interesting / more general than merely up vote + down vote. I think the most important thing is for voters to want to experiment. And to be engaged.

This is an area where being decent at deflecting into a personal area of expertise can be really effective. And sometimes it doesn't require a deflection - if someone asks me about my favorite data structure, it's easy to go on fo

Aha - I think I see our miscommunication. When you say bias you mean statistical bias. Yes, machine learning is able to correct for that kind of bias - 538's polls forecast is a good example of that. But you don't get to redefine

This is very optimistic. There are well known and documented cases of ml algorithm bias and its cause [1]. And it's not surprising that data itself contains some biases from the humans creating it. Suppose police are asking machine lea

Look at the context: what is a non obvious way one could help a female engineer? Mentoring them. That might include checking up on them eg perhaps by chatting over coffee. At the least, if you are mentoring male colleagues (even informally)

My understanding of the answer to (2) is that the bar isn't substantially lowered; rather, more males are considered. This happens for lots of reasons -- as a white dude, if I refer people, a majority of my programmer friends are white

Ask everyone you work with for coffee. Please don't omit the women. I've mentored new hires, and in that context it's easy to say, "hey can we get tea and talk about how the first few weeks have been?"
