I could understand this if "America" was a singular entity. In reality, it's much more complicated than that. It's American filmmakers creating a movie about how a war, which American politicians chose to fight, effected

I'm not up to speed on ZBLAN at all (had to google what it is just now), but if it can really do 0.05dB/km at 1550nm [1], then it seems like it's actually ideally suited for long distance telecom. This is like taking an off-t

The satellite antennas used to uplink a video feed like this have a very small beamwidth (around 1° depending on antenna size and the frequency they're using), so you need to keep them pointed precisely at a specific point in the sky.

Yeah, saying HFA is ill-equipped to obtain mechanical licenses doesn't make sense to me. That's exactly the role they play. Maybe they didn't obtain performance licenses though?

This is a bit confusing. My understanding of how music publishing works is that the copyright is usually assigned to the publisher (for a limited amount of time), so any rights of the copyright holder are rights of the publisher. They would

My understanding is that it's the diesel engines that don't like it (the generator head itself is fine). Basically, some of the fuel in the combustion chamber doesn't get burned, and comes out the exhaust. This builds up in t

To further clarify, my intuition (having not read the spec) is that even if a middle-box sent a 103 response and had the client download a JS or CSS file, it won't get used by the client unless it is referenced by the document that is

I had never heard of a para-anchor[1] before, so I just looked it up - they're really cool! It's a brand of sea-anchor[2] that looks like a big parachute that goes underwater, effectively anchoring the boat where it is without hav

Yep[1]! I used it for my girlfriend's small business site (Wordpress) and was very happy with it. I think CSS, JS, and images are cached - HTML is not. 1: https://www.cloudflare.com/plans/

I think most CDNs will add reasonable cache-control headers as well - IIRC Cloudflare does this with sane defaults out of the box.

The actual headline is 'Venmo is offering users an (ugly) physical debit card,' so the '(ugly)' part complicates this. From a quick search, it seems like 'an' is correct here, because the '(ugly)' par

Looks pretty nice! The readme says it's not useful for repos with >2000 commits, but I wonder if we could hack together some sort of cache for it to facilitate delta updates?

I think this would be more compelling if you demonstrate that 7 years is long enough to generate 80% of the revenue. For many artistic works, it can take years to produce them (writing a book for instance), and many don't gain traction

The rules in my dad's wood shop when I was growing up were pretty simple: any jewelry (necklace, bracelet, watch, rings, etc.) had to be removed, and eye protection had to be on before a tool could be turned on.
