Say what you want about Microsoft and IE (I'm expecting Microsoft to be bashed as usual in this thread), but for those of us who were developing for the web in the early 2000s IE was way richer in features that any other browser. The event

At the bottom of the webpage there's this link: http://liliputing.com/2012/08/gonote-android-4-0-netbook-hea... which suggests it will seek for $235. If that's really the price I'd buy one today for my son.

My company was using AppEngine to host our product but we switched over to AWS (python, nginx/tornado, mongo) last year because of similar problems. On a small amount of load the problems you are describing can be high. On a large scale l

Am I missing something here? The transit, bank and account number on the check must all be fake (or I would hope that this get-rick-quick company didn't actually send their real bank information!). So whether or not the check has non-negot

It's interesting how we individuals on HN seem to use search in a totally different way then other, non-technical, groups and we think we're the norm. In the past I had the same type of comments (e.g. Google returns better results, I don't

I think it's the same as many other services from Amazon. It's the fact that you don't have to maintain it yourself. You use their APIs and it works. I don't know if you've ever tried to setup a search engine yourself but it can be a rela

This is a pretty open ended problem! How to you measure success? After I create my algorithm how do I know that I'm close to what reddit wants? Without answers to these questions, IMO, this is an exercise in futility. I'm not close enoug

I'm curious why you used BeautifulSoup when scrapy has its own built-in HTML parser (HtmlXPathSelector). Is there an advantage to BeautifulSoup or is it just the tool that you're most comfortable with?

It would be nice to be able to use xpaths to get to the data I want to extract. Having done quite a few extractors in the past I find xpaths to be the easiest way to finding the correct data. Just a thought.
