Captchas are not effective at preventing attacks at all. There are many human and AI powered services as well as secret exploits that attackers can use. Captchas only stop spam, amateur scripts and web-scrapers. It's a real shame that

Another point that is often overlooked is that geographical _flat_ size is misleading and often irrelevant. The distance/area of 1000 kilometers gives you very little information without topographical/logistical context. i.e. k

I'm pretty sure it's an open secret that paid Tinder is definitely helping out their users in various obvious (e.g. see who swiped you) and non-obvious ways (e.g. more favorable matching algorithms). Not sure if it's a bad th

It's a bit ignorant to claim that public knowledge access has no value. There's a lot to learn from reading #1 project of it's kind, don't you think?

I think one thing a lot of people learned from this pandemic that misfortunate does "trickle up". As a software-engineer I wasn't really affected by the lock-down but my quality of life definitely dropped just because a lot o

Yes, there is global search since v2.3.0 (current newest version is 2.4.0); however it has to be explicitly enabled by the instance so not every instance has it.

Real question here is whether HN a community or a glorified news feed? I think it's the latter and there's nothing wrong with that, I actually don't want a forum community, just a place where I can read the _news_ and some
