Holy moly the new source picker is awesome. Anxiously awaiting the full release of this version.

In OBS, add a new "Source". Which choice you use will depend on your operating system, but on macOS they're using the built-in APIs in the OS to do the captures. I think on Linux and Windows it's "Application Captur

You can buy a refurb Mac mini for €589. Macs haven't started at €2K since the early 90s.

That's why I never have it generate any significant amount of code for those. I get juuuuuust enough to start understanding the structure and procedure and which parts of the API docs I should even be looking at for the problem at hand

I'm the same way. LLMs are still somewhat useful as a way to start a greenfield project, or as a very hyper-custom google search to have it explain something to me exactly how I'd like it explained, or generate examples hyper-tune

I have a ThinkPad T420 that is sufficient for most tasks that don't involve HEVC acceleration. It's got a mobile Sandy Bridge i7, booting off of a SATA SSD. The only thing that really needed an upgrade was the display. I ditched t

Coming from the shell, one of the most annoying things about Python is working with files. In the shell I can read and write to files on the filesystem with basically no friction and no extra infrastructure. Just a "cat" command o

Imagine though, if we shell-heads came over to Windows and started writing an entirely new shell to replace Powershell because we didn't want to learn Powershell. It's just so utterly bizarre to me. I guess people like what they l

The semicolon is required only when not using new lines to split the command words, as in sleep 60; do_the_thing_that_needs_a_minute_wait It's not necessarily required in the for loop either, I tend to prefer the more compact method of

I believe the Pi 5 dropped the hardware encoder for H.264 only, with the claim that the CPU was fast enough to brute force it (sure...). It does have accelerated HEVC, so OBS should be able to handle that.

Price parity but not feature parity. I still struggle to find good use-cases for the full sized Pi that both require direct GPIO and the increased CPU capabilities/storage speeds. For anything that needs GPIO, I find it much easier t

It's not very productive to build an entire OS on top of and JIT compiled on top of my already mature and functional OS. It's a waste of my time. And if it is an OS, it's also just not one where I can be very productive.

The issue is that on Linux, unless you are really careful and fastidious in lowering your expectations, there is no desktop environment that comes close to the experience on macOS (despite its now numerous flaws and horrible regressions).

Classic Mac OS' Platinum is also a contender for pre-2000 peaks. I actually never grew up with a Mac, my first one ran Tiger when I was in high school. But over the years I have collected rare or interesting Macs of yore, from before m

Apple removed third-party kernel extensions (and even so only removed the ability to install them without going into recovery and changing a scary box). There are still lots of .kext files in the /System folder for hardware drivers.
