It's still a bit early to call the Netherlands a narco state, but it's worrying yes. Vice has a good series about this issue[0]. [0] https://video.vice.com/en_uk/video/vice-lean-weed-and-cocain... [1] h

That's the weakest of arguments. I don't trust that governments _can_ protect my data better than us nerds. If there is a backdoor, it will only be a matter of time before the criminals get access to it. It would be the holy grail

> Securely encrypted communication is at risk. Up to now, encrypted messages cannot be searched by the algorithms. To change that back doors would need to be built in to messaging software. As soon as that happens, this security loophole

Same here. I currently work four days a week, I'm off every Wednesday. This one day in between to recharge really helps me 'survive' the week. On any given workday I can always look forward to just working one more day until

I'm not a social media user, but I'm actually considering to start using Instagram with this feature. Disabling likes doesn't show that I harbor insecurity, it simply removes the 'rat race' feeling that I have with

I bought a Pioneer DJM-750MK2 (a 4-channel mixer). I'm super happy with it. Also bought a second 27-inch monitor to have a 3-monitor setup (macbook + 2x 27' monitors), which is fantastic, especially when using Ableton Live on two

In The Netherlands the house prices have only continued to go up during the pandemic. As a Millenial myself, buying a house is still out of reach. No resignation for me anytime soon.

I've never had public profile information. Only visible for friends (and my phone number wasn't even visible there). How would my private phone number get into that dataset? That would suggest that they have more than just public

And they apparently also didn't plan on deleting my PII (phone number was in the leak), even after I permanently deleted my account at FB over 3 years ago. I thought I had the 'right to be forgotten' because of the GDPR, as I

Shellcheck and the VS Code Shellcheck extension[1] are really good. I never write a bash script without it. Built-in autofixes and direct links to extensive documentation on each rule, with easy to grasp examples. It's just awesome. [1

Yes, this is the property that was used to measure the number of previously visited websites. It only counts the previous sites in the current browser tab if I remember correctly.

You should look into Dokku! I'm hosting 30+ apps (frontends / api's / cms's / other processes) on a single 5eu/mo DigitalOcean droplet. I believe Hertzner is the cheapest hosting provider with a 2,87eu

I've had the honour to build clickclickclick.click (frontend/backend), with the truly unique team at Studio Moniker in Amsterdam. I was quite inexperienced - 1 year after graduating from art school - when I joined and started work

I'm working on a self-hosted, open source PaaS called Swarmlet. I really like Dokku, but I needed something that's a bit more scalable to my needs. The installer is currently broken, I simply don't have enough time / ban

As a DJ I use Bandcamp a lot. There's so much stuff on there that you just cannot find on other platforms such as Beatport. It also feels great to pay the artist or label directly. Often they let you set your own price for an EP or alb

You should check out Matomo (formerly Piwik), which is a free self-hosted GA alternative. I'm very satisfied with it so far. It disables tracking by default - I think, but this is configurable in the Matomo dashboard.
