Guess the moral of the story is hierarchy will always exist - it can either be visible or invisible. People who want power will seek it. Inevitably people will end up following/obeying them for one reason or another … and we have a per

I don’t think it will affect people’s ability to write good programs - in fact it probably helps. That said, if a feature is really hard to figure out and it’s a constant pain point for newcomers … maybe it isn’t worth it … No other languag

Freedom of speech as a concept is relatively simple, Wikipedia has pretty good definition, “Freedom of speech is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or a community to articulate their opinions and ideas without fear of re

Have you heard of "glitch tokens"? To my knowledge, all these are hand patched. There are probably more lurking somewhere in its data. Also https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37054241 has quite a few examples of

IMHO LLMs are so popular because they sound very confident. That’s great marketing in itself. Unfortunately it’s only marketing.

I think we have a bit of miscommunication here. You see these “benchmarks” as necessary and sufficient for “real intelligence” when people are just saying they are necessary but not sufficient. It’s like asking for a drink (legal age 21) a

Unions are often monopolies too - monopolies on labour. Monopolies often lead to inefficiency in the market and an inefficient market is bad for everyone.

Not quite “just another corporation”, they are often monopolies on labour. Frankly, power imbalances in either direction isn’t good - because we all know it will be abused.

Sometimes a decision has to be made though - e.g. is a particular person a murderer. In most countries, the burden of proof is on the accuser and the accused doesn’t need to proven his or her innocence and is treated as innocent until prove

I am. It’s worse than Chrome in a way frankly in that JPEGXL is only supported in the Nightlies behind a flag. However Mozilla has not completely dropped the feature like Google.

What’s outrageous is Google’s BS reasoning for dropping the format. They claim lack of interest when they (and Firefox) have been hiding JPEGXL support behind flags (and nightlies in the case of FireFox) yet WebP and AVIF is fully supported

Oh please, Google’s parent company is worth 1.64 trillion USD. They can afford a few programmers to maintain a codec. Lack of popularity hasn’t stop them from supporting webp and AVIF.
