In contrast to people super hyped about space I have a far more pessimistic view. I feel that if the US spends enough money they will get to Mars, leave some instruments, and maybe go back a few more times, then … everyone will forget about

I don’t know about not having deliverables. Aren’t the deliverables of their subordinates their deliverables as well? i.e. If things don’t go well the guy in charge eats the blame as it’s his/her job to make sure it does.

The RTX 3080 already uses 320W (peak?). By next GPU generation who knows. Good lord, just 2 generation back GPUs like the 1070Ti consumed 180W. Even if you add a CPU (of that era) like the i7-7700 with it 65W draw, that just 245W. Now a vid

I suppose my point is you are still burning fossil fuels - admittedly less of it - in most cases (for now) so you pay into the shipping of that stuff around too.

Where the sun is shining/wind is blowing might be too far away. There are limits to how far we can draw power from technically, economically, and politically. Also other regions need power too so you would be straining their supply - u

Frankly, I wonder if we will ever be completely free from fossil fuels. Renewables have a few problems that need solving. What do you do when the sun isn't shining and the wind isn't blowing? Storage would fix that except we don&#

Aren’t most power grids still powered mostly by fossil fuels. You have to pay for the fuel one way or another - i.e. if it’s not gasoline, it’s coal or natural gas; unless you charge only at peak solar/wind power generation and there i
