Sadly Safari is the only useable iOS browser, as it's the only one where Content Blockers work for ad blocking.

> Compared to Northern Europe certainly. Housing quality in Portugal is a joke. It's like going back in time a 100 years compared to Northern Europe: no heat insulation, high fire risk due to old electric infrastructure, single-laye

Airbnb is also a factor, and has for sure removed hundreds of beautiful 1 bedroom flats in central areas from the rental market. I'm not sure of the legal status of airBnB in Portugal, but it could be part of the problem.

Roads I've driven on in Portugal were all much clearer of traffic, less potholed and better signposted than the UK. In particular they have some motorway innovations we should steal: A minimum speed limit, and a zone around junctions w

Agree, if I ever become fully remote and leave the UK I'd definitely consider Portugal, the quality of food, beauty of the cities & countryside, people are all great, costs are ultimately incredibly low for living in a European cap

But you have to live in a specific place, and what you get for your $2000 is considered cramp squalor by the rest of the country.

In the wider view, where most of the population aren't FAANG engineers, it does make sense though, as most of the younger population can't afford a mortgage at all in a 'hot market', so the higher CoL is just lost. There

By the time you know this is the case in your flat, it's too late to do anything about it. Other than wait a year, then move into another flat which may have the same problem. Market forces don't work for hidden features like this

It doesn't even need to be someone who moved to the area who's grandfathered in to the cheap taxes: Families can share ownership of a property and retain it forever. It's an insanely unfair system.

Counterpoint: it's a lot more wasteful, especially for desktops, to own Apple. Look at all the iMacs with recent, high quality 5K monitors that'll be scrapped, as they can't be used with another video source. Such a waste.

Veganism just draws an arbitrary line, wasn't scientifically selected for ecological benefits or any scientific health basis. Look at honey - obviously good for you, obviously sustainable, not allowed in the vegan diet.

We already know apple's own software has special exemptions in the OS e.g. from packet sniffers. Any reason to trust the ram usage for Safari nowadays?

Yeah, at least the US has multiple cities with similar pressure on price, the UK market is so unbalanced by London. But anecdotally a huge swath of the younger population is moving to Birmingham or Manchester to escape the South East price
