But really what does it need to do? Write some characters on a screen. If it could do that 14 years ago it can do it today. It's not like ereaders have evolved to do full motion video and the text ones have become obsolete. Luckily kor

Ehhh twisted pair came from the time of 10 mbit hubs. No processing or switching, every port heard every packet. Silicon was at a premium. Automatic switching between MDI/MDI-X would have made the hubs way more expensive. Only a few ye

Well, they were in IFR. It was dark and they probably couldn't see the horizon. The senses can play tricks on the body when you have no frame of reference. This phenomenon is trained for of course but it is hard to avoid. However what

I think it's more a supply chain issue. There aren't any very stretched rectangular eInk panels from what I've been seeing. I've seen some for price tags but I mean nothing like 8-10 inches or so. And they're such a

Well yes but they don't have to worry about environmental or social concerns. They can just pollute wherever they want and jail anyone who complains. Economically it might be more successful but I'd prefer being a citizen somewher

Me too. And I can type so much faster and without thinking about it than I can write. I've had many writing classes in school and different holders for the pen etc but I never managed to improve at all. Writing is just not for everyone

Hmm I don't think it's as black and white as just blaming airbus. The pilots literally flew a perfectly flying plane straight into the ocean. And they had plenty of time to understand what was going on. But they didn't. They

Sixels are far from modern :) They were introduced in the VT240 (special purpose version of the 220) and became mainstream on DEC terminals with the 320.

I travelled on an E195 recently and I have to say it was much more comfortable than any 737 or 320/321 I've been on. Unlike other regionals I've travelled on in the past which were noisy, cramped and bumpy. Their squircle fus

Tech is very present in Europe. We don't have that kind of ultra capitalist startup culture but when I see what comes out of that (meta, Google, Microsoft) I'm glad we don't. They're all companies that place profit over

Possibly. I'm on Orange fiber and I haven't noticed anything weird either. However all my torrent traffic already goes through VPN and I don't watch football or any kind of live Spanish TV, I have zero interest in any sport.

One thing I don't understand is how for decades it was totally fine to subsidise a new site with a few ads. But now they're all paywalling. What's changed?

I see archive.is / archive.today used a lot more for that. First of all it's a lot faster than archive.org, second of all they are much better at bypassing the paywalls. In some cases the operator even seems to have taken up a sub
