Nix is nice as a catch-all, and especially good when languages like C and C++ don't have popular package managers. It's definitely not better than cargo or pip when dealing with just Rust or Python, but it's definitely releva

With this stack, do you ever run binaries outside of the containers? Do you need to use the nix command line very much? I agree that nix is somewhat painful to deal with, but Bazel essentially has no package management story at all. It wou

Then you would also need to include the potentially much worse outcome of paying taxes on the equity and having it later become worthless.

It looks like the prevailing explanation is that DTCC increased collateral requirements and some brokers couldn't handle that. https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2021-01-29/reddit...

This is not true, Citadel is the largest market maker and is in fact TDA's largest broker. This is abundantly clear in 606 disclosures. TDA: https://www.tdameritrade.com/retail-en_us/resources/606_disc... fr

It's worth pointing out that the HFT pays robinhood $.02 to receive the order, and then may or may not fill the order at <= $10. These are separate happenings, and robinhood does not ever receive part of the variable price improve

All retail brokerages sell order flow to the wholesale brokerages, it is part of the market structure. Rule 606 disclosures enumerate each brokerage's arrangement: eg. https://cdn.robinhood.com/assets/robinhood

A long halt would be bad for shorts, since they would be stuck paying the 125% annualized borrow for the duration of the halt. And practically a halt doesn't _really_ affect the prices.

I imagine the paternalism argument would be something like "currently GME is part of a ponzi scheme, and you would be defrauded by making this purchase".

Not everyone does everything the best possible way. Almost all people will immediately balk at the idea of using leverage in investing, despite the higher backward-looking risk adjusted returns. This is especially true when it might be stat

Retail orders generally trade with against market makers off-exchange, between the quoted market price. If the quote is Buy @ $1.00 x Sell @ $1.01, a retail order would be able to buy at a price like $1.0099. That $.0001 savings is known as
