Great short read and book recc. I find myself often trying to articulate this idea (sometimes to myself, often to a friend) - starting with the map and building a territory from it --> generally bad. While reading this article I wasn

Same, 8.5-9 is the thing. I did a sleep study and technically have very mild sleep apnea (<5 apnea events per night).

The same has happened to me. It's been almost every 1-2 years for the past 10 that I experience another great loss. Most recently was my mother. That one was/still is tough.

I'd love to have a reading list well-managed and with minimal friction to add and track (without buying yet). I use both 1. Amazon shopping list, and 2. a custom chrome extension -to- airtable action. The second lets me track who recom

Gotta add Refika to the list. She's way more natural and earnest than most of these bros. Weissman is insufferable.

Cool, styling is slick. A good friend of mine has pretty much everything you built, but as an elaborate excel sheet (he's quite the wizard). I for one don't care to track individual transactions. I'm building something simila

As a c++/java guy, my side project is in typescript (as it was meant to be a web app). I.. don't love it. I often am using the ! operater to say "yes, I'm sure there will be an object here" in an array and having to

I'm a bit of a pessimist here. Finding open minded people has been very difficult. I've got a set, they are my oldest and best friends, spread across the continent now. What is your reading list and hours per week spent? If you ar

In r/Canada every day there is a similar post (though usually from mainstream news outlets) about how housing is broken. And every day it gets several hundred replies. The despair is real. Very depressing as my family is in Canada and

But you're not truly informed, at best you know the opinions of others. Or more typically, you're informed as to what media outlet publishes to get eyeballs for advertising revenue. Your conversations with others are only more int

I think he's implying that it means those houses are underpriced, to be snapped up at 100k over asking so easily. By comparison, a GTA home with a sale price of 1.5M regularly sells for 1.5-1.6. But last year it would have only cost 1.

I, too, fantasize about leaving IT and just working behind a bar. But just like in engineering, every path has its own set of trade-offs. And part of the pay trade-off is that while I can live comfortably on smaller pay, I can earn my finan

Agree. In the last few years I've tried to shift from seeking happiness to seeking meaningfulness as the first order pursuit. Happiness is like a red herring for meaning, or it's a side effect of a meaningful activity. Or it'

It's not a cop out it's just a way out. If video games, side projects, promotions, rock climbing, travel, etc. work for you, then go for it. But I think for most, those fade. Kids are an investment that pays dividends forever.
