I really hate how I read about this on the news, not first but only there. The last layoff came and went without a peep from any management above me, even week+ later. Looks like the same again. I was around for a big Microsoft layoff m

I didn't know it was the right move (and still don't? There is no right move?). I was severely depressed, unhelped by the professionals in my ring, and really really did not want a job. But rationally I knew that what I thought wa

Have a lot to say, it was an emotional journey with highest highs and lowest lows of my life. But can't type it all out. Happy to answer any particular question. In short: I saved up enough not to quit rat race forever, but to see what

Virtually same life! Quit around 30, didn't work for a full year. Then worked 20h/week for about 2y while I invested the rest of my productive time into hobbies or pet ideas. Then I went back to similar job different company. Took

Ah yes.. the trope of overpaid (with respect to history) millennial writing about their transcendence from this absurd thing called 'work'. Not judging harshly because I did nearly the same as the author years ago! Only I found a

The thing that most makes this poster's life worth living is caring for an animal which was engineered to be pleasant to care for. And a lot of people use these animals to replace human relationships (I've seen it quite a few time

That's my take, too. It's platonic ideal v.s. real life. The latter is frustrating, but it's.. real.

Liking software but hating software engineering is kind of like enjoying the platonic and hating reality. We're all in agreement that the real world is messy and stressful to deal with. That's life!

There are many, it's practically it's own category of slice. There's definitely a quality hit, but still a great value. And they churn through them so much that you're quite likely to get one fresh out of the oven - whic

If Uber can't make the economics work with an assload of venture capital to be able to take huge losses, how would a (presumably?) less well funded competitor succeed? Uber too big/slow to adopt the second-comer's strategy?
