I hear a lot about "lawful orders", and never anything about what makes an order lawful or not.

Better, but still not quite right. You don't have to reject the primacy if you never acquired it or considered it in the first place. Fashion is a feature of socialization, and not everyone was socialized the same way.

I think the takeaway here is that there are lots of people who are _partially_ p-zombies: missing important "inner experiences" that everyone else has, but otherwise appear normal.

Linear means that f(n) is a linear function of f(n-1)...f(n-k). This means that you can calculate f(n)...f(n-k+1) in terms of a matrix multiply on f(n-1)...f(n-k) (most of the matrix is empty, with ones just off the diagonal). Taking powe

Yes. It's been my defaultish interpretation since I've learned quantum mechanics. There is a wonderful lecture by Harvard Professor Sidney Coleman, called "Quantum Mechanics in Your Face"[1]. In it, he essentially leads

There is no reason beyond numerology to believe that any of the Planck units actually mean anything.

Thankfully quantum information has been a successful way to smuggle foundational research past funding committees.

I'm saying it's another authoritarian impulse to squash dissent, yes. Smaller magnitude, sure. But that's exactly why you compare things -- to see what's better or worse.

The only point at which randomness enters is with "measurement" -- interaction with a classical system. But, if you believe in quantum mechanics, there is actually no such thing as a classical system, only large quantum systems.

Everything that enables privacy absolutely could enable child exploitation imagery. But privacy as a whole is too fucking valuable to give up to make prosecuting some crimes easier. In the US, that's the whole point of the fourth ame

The problem is that there's no reason to believe that this policy will be limited strictly to obvious garbage. Unpopular, but not garbage views will inevitably be hit too. Maybe that's worth taking out the garbage, but collateral

That's still true. It can write a paragraph that's usually grammatical, and can stay on topic, but it's missing things like facts, or even the ability to remember which side of an argument it's taken previously.

I thought that in recent times ImageMagick acted like busybox, with all the executables symlinked to one master one, and dispatching functionality based on name. Certainly that's the way the fork GraphicsMagick works.
