Maybe that's what's happening right now :-) If I would build something like this, I'd go for an interpreter with a stack you manage yourself to handle infinite loops... using a timeout, not by solving the halting problem, random smartass!

Just guessing: instead of handing you an installation disk and a license key, they tell you "on disk X there's the installer and the keygen"?

Unfortunately, this is common. It's also something for which there doesn't appear to be a gray area. You either see a mature (in the 'attitude' sense, not 'age'), professional company that legally obtains licenses, or you see people using c

In theory, sure. There's a gray area where you're not quite content with the employee, but the employee is making some progress, so you may want to hold out. But surely in that case frequent feedback is a must (to guide the progress) so I g

The Pentagon was not attacked to disrupt military capability. That would consistute a military target. It was attacked for the symbolic value.

That's interesting and relevant, but should in no way mean this post needs to be flagged. I wasn't aware of any of this (post nor rebuttal) for instance.

Where I live, a company-paid car lease is pretty much standard for every non-junior developer. It sounds decadent and it probably isn't the "best" non-cash benefit one can come up with, but it does bring a lot of value since paying for a ca

I cannot second this enough. Suspension of disbelief isn't some accidental aspect of fiction, it is essential to enjoying it. When even a casual viewing (as opposed to rigorous pseudo-scientific analysis) can't maintain suspension of disb

The holodeck is one of the most-abused plot elements in Star Trek. Basically every time budget was short or the production crew felt like using other costumes, they'd just use the holodeck as magical plot element. With grave plot inconsiste

If it's not a case here, how could this be a good example ? This is an example of generating code to work around a limitation. You can approve or disapprove of the whole situation, but it does have technical merit.

It's been a while since I generated JVM bytecode (oh my, five years), but I don't recall there being array initializer instructions. In other words, the new Object[] {...} statement probably translates to a whole bunch of array-write operat
