When I updated my old MBP to Catalina it was pretty ugly as well. There were a couple of points where I thought it was stalled, or it would reboot multiple times back into the same exact screen and it seemed to be failing, but it did eventu

Some great thoughts here, but I just wanted to clarify that Chewy.com does warn you via email several days before autoships happen. (I've been using autoship for close to a year now.)

If you're as diligent as you say then it's probably not an issue, but hearing people state this so confidently always reminds me of the Febreze story: https://priceonomics.com/americans-thought-they-smelled-fine...

Everything is easier in ACNH. Even though I’m making much faster progress, it’s not as satisfying.

Alternatively, they could have paid IBM a billion dollars and still gotten an app that didn't work. At least they saved some money?

That article is about a “surface treatment” for solid objects, like Vantablack. OP is talking about screens — I believe they are referring to OLED true black.

I believe OLED technology is what OP is referring to. The pixels can turn off individually in order to create true blacks.

It sounds like she doesn’t necessarily see new colors, she just can distinguish far more colors in things that look monochromatic to the rest of us. It’s not that the rest of us can’t see lime green, but we don’t see it in a pebble or tre

I assumed it was an exaggeration, like 48 hours with a break to sleep, because how could OP even know for sure that it was truly 48 hours without break if the guy was at home? I'm still suspicious whether it was actually 48 hours strai

Re: 1), you also have to place the cursor before you can grab it and move it. You used to be able to place it precisely in one step using a long press to get the the magnifying glass, but now that selects the word under your finger instead.

It's definitely a convenient excuse if you just want to be lazy. I certainly can't imagine how any Nest developer could abuse my private data any worse than Google already does. God forbid any third party should find out -- with m

How so? I bought into Nest long before it was bought by Google. Should I have been able to predict all this somehow?

Not only do they now force you to have a Google account and Google Assistant (via Android or Google Home) to take full advantage of your Nest now, but they also pretty much gutted the API in the name of "privacy." Ironic. I was lo

I was confused about this too. I think the win here is that the machine is small enough to actually fit in a fast-food restaurant. Plus, they're planning to branch out from pizza.

Can the machine detect three identical plates stuck together? Just curious. My most hated parts to separate are a flat dot on top of a regular dot. Second runner-up is the 1x1 plate on top of a dot, which is common in the Minecraft sets. I&

I calculated a similar deficit in another comment, although the "x calories in a kg/lb" number is just a guideline. Any explanation involving water weight, digestive tract contents etc. would be nullified by the time period.

Borderline obese is not that high a bar. At 6'3" an "obese" BMI is 240 lbs. Just for fun, let's use that popular "3,500 calories in a pound" estimate. You'd have to run a 2,750 calorie deficit per day

Yeah, that's about 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs) per week. Might be possible/healthy if you're starting at 500 lbs, but based on the stats we know that's not the case.

I don't necessarily object to the generalization that mothers are more involved and concerned. What I find objectionable is implying that this quality of mothers has ruined childhood. The "dads who think like moms" comment al
