I have way more experience with java on android than Flutter, and Flutter so far has been a breeze.

What if you have a mobile app? Rest APIs? The argument doesn't work. Every backend language has ways to generate specs/types/clients from the APIs code.

Many products provide MCP servers to connect LLMs. For example I can have claude examine things through my ahrefs account without me using the UI etc

The ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 at Costco for $380 has a single thread passmark score of 2800. The laptop I use to develop most of my SaaS products, with IDEs and claude open etc, has a score of 2000. I run Linux, but win10 iot runs fine on it too.

All of FastComments is/was built on an 8th gen i7 from 2017 Using older hardware has helped me not accidentally build slow stuff. Although at some point I gotta upgrade and just add more performance tests :) but nothing replaces feelin

What will go away is the "senior engineer" position filled by people making six figures that don't know how to debug a memory leak or create a database index.

At fastcomments we split our fleet across both ovh and hetzner Incase of an issue so it's been interesting to compare the reliability etc. I don't have anything bad to say about either provider.

Yeah, a $45 hetzner box would probably be at the top of all these charts, but it's a little more work to provision.

I'd consider System76 in that case, I don't think their fit and finish is known for being top tier but the specs are pretty good. Also maybe framework? The thinkpads and dells are probably mostly fine, you can always return it if

The A18 Pro single thread passmark score is 4k, that's up there with pretty premium desktop CPUs, very impressive if it can do it for any meaningful time.

How do you know there's no PWM flicker? Even my M3 Pro with its supposed 10khz backlight burns my eyes, I had to get rid of it. Is this display not oled?

Again, it's called management. You're managing something unpredictable: the LLM. This is nothing new, at all. Do you have a strategy that makes other engineers do what you want exactly 100% of the time?

But we can predict the outcomes, though. That's what we're saying, and it's true. Maybe not 100% of the time, but maybe it helps a significant amount of the time and that's what matters. Is it engineering? Maybe not. But

I recommend a dedicated $40 hetzner or OVH box and just keep all your projects on that. They're pretty powerful. I was spending a lot on a bunch of $5 linodes until recently and you have to keep them upgraded etc...
