I don't waste time doing that. Sounds like a skill issue :) React is on like version 18, you guys can keep getting paid to upgrade frontend libraries every year, I'll watch.

Yeah I wouldn't use backbone either. I use reusable components. It really hasn't been a productivity issue for me... I wrote all of fastcomments (uis, backend), so... :P

FastComments is a couple hundred thousand lines of JS now (backend and frontend, with a couple small backend java services) I hope to move to TS in 2025 But, we still don't use a frontend framework, we just write components as classes.

Do you have a bad battery? Linux mint on my 2018 carbon with original battery still gets 4hrs of developing in IDEA with a YouTube vid in the background for music.

to_string() gives you an owned string (like std::string) vs a borrowed string slice (kind of like char*). If you already have an owned string you don't need to do that obviously If you need to keep using Person after calling show() the

Has anyone tried both LiveView and say Vaadin Flow to compare them? I'm using Vaadin now on a project and it's pretty great so far with Quarkus. The app is also only using like 200mb of memory with production traffic, and I have a

It also doesn't seem to let you generate chess sets inspired by many political figures or other popular names. While you can't generate a Kamala Harris inspired chess set, you also can't generate a Bob Ross inspired chess set

I quite like the chess set inspired by Roombas.

Because it sucks. Have you tried to draw an arrow in it? Or add some text to an image and then move the text without figuring out you need to like double click or click hold or whatever to not move the text and instead move the background l

Your DB is probably faster than you think. I rewrote an API in Python to Java and it is around 6x faster with just same dumb N+1 queries, and the new API also includes all the frontend calculations that Python wasn't doing before.

Probably the transformer is bad or maybe a cap dried up, so it's just barely running on wall power.

The downtime here is mostly OVH's fault. They're not known for fast support on hardware failures, that's why they're cheap. If they had this architecture on AWS EC2 and could just spin up a new AMI, then they'd only

Yeah, the equivalent nowadays would be like going from 256mb to 16gb. Even most AAA games will still run on 8gb ram just fine.

Well, I already run my setup through a kilowatt. I don't see a difference with Python, which you can argue should be 10-100x less efficient: import time while True: time.sleep(0.001) also the script itself it bounces between

The thing I like about this is when I get a heap dump I could get names for things instead of "object shapes", which would be cool.
