The live wallpapers are neat but I noticed they consume ~200MB of RAM, so I don't use them on my 8GB M1 Air.

Intel made ARM chips, then sold that portion of the company in 2006, shortly before the iPhone was announced. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XScale It was incredibly bad timing. If intel had continued making ARM chips t

The Intel Iris Pro graphics from about 10 years ago were actually ok. I believe they were matching the lower-end dedicated laptop GPUs of that era. The problem was Apple was the only company willing to pay for the Iris Pro Chips.

My 2018 MBP 15 is the i7 model, while it gets warm it never had the overheating issues the i9 models had. I also had the battery replaced under AppleCare about 10 months ago so it still gets 7-9 hours of battery life.

I have an M1 Air 8GB and a 2018 MBP 16GB. Performance feels about the same until the Air hits swap, then the old Intel MBP still outperforms the M1 Air.

2-3 weeks to change brake pads seems incredibly excessive and to be honest I don't believe it. I delivered Pizzas for more than 5 years, and my brake pads would still last 20,000+ miles.

The tradesmen charge what it costs to run a sustainable business. Unless all the tradesmen in your area are driving Lamborghinis and live in multimillion-dollar homes?

I recently had to fix the radio in my car for the same reason. Pioneer installed the firmware onto a cheap SD card that they have hidden inside the radio and requires disassembly to replace. Of course they don't offer the original fi

Apple replaced the battery in my 2018 MacBook Pro under AppleCare. The 2008 MacBook Pro has removable batteries and I have several of them that still last 3+ hours.

Actually you can add a modern GPU to the old iMacs, they use an MXM GPU. I have upgraded my 2010 iMac to a 2012-era GPU from a Dell laptop to get metal support. I have also upgraded the CPU, Wifi card, and added 32GB of RAM to this 2010 iMa

Legacy apps are quite common. I have recently been doing IT for State Farm Insurance. Every State Farm insurance office in the country is still using a DOS App from the 1980's to run their office.

I am using open core on several Apple devices from 2008-2010. A Metal capable GPU makes a huge difference in performance. After upgrading my 2010 iMac to a Firepro M4000, it runs the current version of macOS Sonoma better than the 2018-201

I have thought about blogging a bit but there are already many people blogging who are much more knowledgable than me. :) This iMac is the 21" model, they have a smaller PSU and cooling, so the most powerful chip you can install is the

Thanks haha and yes I also installed an SSD. Unfortunately this iMac is only SATA II, so that limits the speeds a bit, but it is still much faster than an HDD. Apple's desktops of that era were quite upgradeable, but those old MacBook

The problem is it adds quite a bit of thickness to the device. The framework 16 solution where it slides into the back is better, but we will see how well upgrades are supported. Surprisingly the older iMacs are very upgradeable because of

Obviously if your job requires blue-collar style manual labor, no it's likely not going to be replaced anytime soon. But if your job is mostly sitting at a computer, I would be a bit worried.

I have a 2018 15" MBP, and an M1 Air and honestly they both perform about the same. The only noticeable difference is the MBP takes ~3 seconds to wake from sleep and the M1 is instant.

While certainly misleading, there were situations where the G4 was incredibly fast for the time. I remember being able to edit Video in iMove on a 12" G4 Laptop. At that time there was no equivalent x86 machine.
