Actually, I'm fine with that part :) For Windows you nowadays need EV code sign certificates in order to be able to distribute without any troubles and -while you don't pay that directly to Microsoft- these certs are significantly

Nope. Have been a developer for windows applications for 20 and some years. Software I build back then still runs fine. Have been a developer for macOS since 2013, since around 2019 I need to bring out patches for changes in the core OS mul

That's a great idea! I already know where I can use this, which would make my code a lot easier (and more robust) to write. Thanks heaps.

An Azure MS dev .. for running on their VMware vSphere 7 home lab. This dev sure is not only looking at their in-house toolset. I'd say that that is a good thing.

Just like building for the web then? In that scenario you also do not know what version the browser is (or even what kind of browser). An advantage would be that the browser gets security patches by the OS.

FYI, I have released a Technical Preview here (1). The demo application is currently only in DataFlex, but I will add other programming languages for the demo later on. 1) https://antwise.com/Edge-WebView2-ActiveX.htm

Not very compatible with the old IE WebBrowser control I'm afraid. That was on my list of things to try, but it just isn't feasible. With mshtml you could directly access the DOM and do pretty much anything in there via its interf

It's a COM interface they can't deprecate without changing the interface. re. "zero control".. you can set a minimum version that you require for your application. If Microsoft creates a bug then yes, you might have an i

There's this [1] and the C++ variant here [2] So far I have not yet investigated what can be done with that. It looks a bit promising (and complicated). Microsoft's deprecated control had the mshtml document interface and that was

It's because they control the whole stack. FWIW, I'm currently finishing up an ActiveX wrapper for WebView2 so that it can be consumed in a way similar to the old IE WebBrowser control and so far I'm pretty impressed. To give

I was with you until that last sentence "Reduce footprint of OS" ... if you've seen the updates from macOS recently then a small footprint is not on their table (at all).

Easy to miss this bit: " Corel offered both a free edition with fewer bundled fonts, as well as a paid version." as it is at the end of a paragraph. Maybe put this either on a new line to draw more attention to it or add a title j

Yep, been bitten by that myself. Nowadays normal (OV) codesign signatures still trigger warnings for users on startup. Only a much more expensive EV codesign certificate guarantees a silent install. The OV codesign certificate can become ac

Just a few seconds of not paying attention are enough when a dog gets excited. I walk a cat -on a leash- and dogs without a leash are a real problem to be on the lookout for at all times.
