I know that Google solicits feedback from their employees who may have worked with you in the past. Is it possible that you pissed off a former co-worker who now works at Google?

You write like everyone who posts to Facebook or Twitter expects you to read everything they post. I don't think anyone posts with that expectation in mind.

When they claim they are the only native browser, then the feature set that defines native better be exclusive to them. It's not negativity to call bullshit on a claim. There are plenty of things Microsoft could be touting about their br

I've seen the same for starting salaries in Seattle, over the last four years (graduated in Dec. 06). This is for big companies like Microsoft and Amazon and for some startups depending upon their stage. Anyone 26 and under would see the

1 isn't exclusive to them, so doesn't add to their point of being "native." 2 comes with a ton of caveats, if I'm not mistaken. Other browsers also take advantage of graphics cards for certain kinds of rendering. I have no evidence for th

The people that I know that work on IE seem to take my ribbing of them in stride. When I complained about having to fix IE7 bugs, they suggested that I throw up a "get with the times" banner. Also, I think the whole IE6 team was disbanded

Holy lord is that a lot of risk to accumulate doing a full rewrite and deploying it all at once. I think the hardest part about rewriting an app is knowing about all the edge cases, kludges, etc. that accumulate over the years. It makes s

The timeframe for these internships is rolling. I'm sure most of the startups would accept an intern tomorrow, but will wait for the summer as well.

I agree that communication skills are a great skill to have as a programmer. I'd probably even rank it higher than raw programming ability, personally. (BTW, not all of these startups are only looking to hire developers--a student looking

I actually thought the same thing about the internship cycle last year. At the school I went to, almost every engineer I knew had accepted an internship by December and many had by October. I was actually really surprised to see that many

We're really excited about helping startups find interns and helping students think outside of the box when applying for a job. Shoot me an email if you'd like to be included in this: kyle@internmatch.com

Interesting. I've worked with a lot of 3rd-party APIs and I liked Netflix's the best by far. They stuck to the REST concept the best of the ones I've seen and it made it very easy to start using it and to write a simple wrapper around it.

One thing to consider about unpaid internships is that they can limit the potential candidate pool. Not everyone can afford to work without being paid.

Sorry for the confusion. We currently only have listings active on the west coast in California, Oregon, and Washington. We should definitely make that more obvious, especially when someone searches outside of our current territory. I'll

Your clarification helped me to understand your comment. However, I don't think what you describe is unique to startups in any way. Any industry or business can be described with those terms. In fact, it's probably more apt of a descri

It's been my experience that the community is exactly the opposite. Founders and early employees are generally eager to help others, even when they probably don't have the time to spare. I've always tried to do the same and it has paid of

But there is a substantive difference between B/C and Social Security. There are many retired people today collecting Social Security (not scrambling for IOUs) who paid into the system from their first day of employment.

That's very far from the truth. If TC was frequently accepting and then breaking embargos, then very quickly their sources of embargos would dry up. TC very clearly announced to everyone that they no longer were going to accept unsolicited

A lot of people here are referring to the iPad as a tablet computer, but I think that most consumers and Apple do not think of the iPad as a tablet, slate, or other terms that imply computer. It's an appliance. Apple doesn't highlight or

I've seen the rule of thumb of 10 minutes of homework per grade in school. So, 1st graders would have 10 minutes of homework per night and 3rd graders would have 30m of homework per night.

I agree that the disparity is frightening, but I think that the timespan for this problem is way too short to judge. These cases are popping up frequently in the news, most likely because of the sudden ubiquity of digital cameras. The law
