Why precisely? Maybe for very new people who need high levels of guidance it could be helpful. But it’s a practice that has no basis in evidence to be so widespread.

I think the problem with setting key-value metadata via the log output, is that permits unbounded cardinality. The current design inherently limits cardinality to the number of pods you have running and the various labels applied to them. F

This is not sustainable, you will burn out in the long run and could take an extended period of time to recover. You are risking your health. I suggest you look at the on-call chapters in the SRE book, SRE Workbook, and Seeking SRE. The sol

Google pays people, both in cash, and/or in compensatory time off. This is specifically called out in the SRE book [0]. They've noted that it's important to pay compensation, both to be fair to the employees, and as a closed-

We would all be exceptionally interested in more technical details about this. Particularly if you compare to other approaches, talk about technical tradeoffs made, etc.

Amazon has nothing in the category of exception tracking. StackDriver error reporting is a lite product intended mostly for folks with small applications on AppEngine. There is a recent post by Corey Quinn entitled CloudWatch Is of the Dev

In what specific way is GCE behind EC2? I would argue on many points GCE is clearly significantly superior to EC2. The Google billing model is far better, they bill on straight CPU and Memory, which you can combine in any desired ratio. Ama

This looks like a fascinating approach. Unfortunately I’m not well versed enough to intelligently compare it to alternatives. Any plans to have Jepsen / Aphyr conduct a rigorous test and write a report on the results?

I think most people would very much like to deploy cluster updates more frequently. Unfortunately this is difficult because most distributions don't keep up with the release cadence. One of (the most?) popular way to deploy Kubernete

You should take the resume advice to heart. I’ve hired a number of engineers and I would likely not look at this one for more than a few seconds. When recruiting, you get a deluge of resumes, there’s simply not time to carefully read them a
