Do you know of a highly successful startup or company doing this? i.e. Same logic with different delivery mechanisms and no hassles whatsoever?

I can't help but see the irony in the fact that the Rails community is slowly moving back to app directories similar to those we found in Java's Spring and others. I guess people from the Enterprise world had a point.

Indeed. :) But something that I can partially build then resume at a later date works too. Not sure I can do the Instagram thing just yet!

This was also discussed five years ago in this great post by Martin Fowler: http://martinfowler.com/bliki/ClassInstanceVariable.html

A little meta, but this design makes it hard to comment on posts! I spent about a minute trying to find the comments section, which is a click away, as opposed to a simple scroll.

Does anybody know whether this is a good introduction for someone who plans to go over the Lambda Papers in detail in about two weeks?

Except when I am offline for a minute, then I have to do some digging. Are you aware of this news.ycombinator.com/best though? I find it helpful

I will be more shocked if I discovered that people dive this deep into code before upvoting, because it is generally not the case. If you think of it, we would have missed your valuable input if people didnt upvote this for you to see. :)

This is a lot easier with eval languages, you just make your own REPL and the sky is the limit.

Haha, interesting edit. :) I think the reason is that people are expecting a discussion of these kinds of decisions (Reverting back to a minimalist design, how to AB test maybe, and so on), and since GitHub is known to pretty much everybody

For me, its simply really, a language is itself a program with too many users, and Guido has demonstrated good design, scale, and engineering skills in building such a program.

I think localisation makes sense for the docs. Maybe we can branch off from here and coordinate the efforts. I myself am ready to work on Arabic and would love to have people join me.

I read about it in one of Steve Yegge's Emacs posts. Now I use it everywhere!

I came across several job posts in London in the threads you mentioned (sepcificallym the whoishiring account). Not sure why you needed a new thread for London.

Fantastic work. The website is wonderfully crafted, and the icons are awesome. I really needed this. Quick question, where would one place an attribution to this work? I was thinking at the end of the about page in my application(s).

I am sure this is very irrelevant, but anybody else thinks season 5 of The Wire was that bad? I think it was outstanding.

Oh you guys are doing great work. I had a similar idea for a long time now, so its good to see it executed. :) Quick question: Does the API allow you to do interesting things with the newsfeed elements like tags and saving/searching?

Does anybody know of any Facebook apps that sort of do the same thing, i.e. recreate the Facebook newsfeed experience for users?

I do something similar. If I am to open too many tabs and don't really need the dev tools, i.e. doing some casual browsing, I go for Opera, or Firefox instead of Chrome. I also go for them when travelling and the battery is scarce.

I agree with you here. That project manager you mentioned is a lot of things to a lot of people. But I think as programmers we might want to agree on a set of standards that identify the good and the bad. I am one year or so older than Dan,

Better yet, you need to be one of them. It works well when your service is, well, of service to you! thats when the proximity to the user is maximized.
