Well, there's plenty of one-time options (PayPal, Kickstarter, Pledgie, ...). Gittip is differentiating on the recurring option. The goal with Gittip is for people to make a living on it. Bills are recurring, so funding has to be as well. Y

I'm not comfortable sharing specifics without their permission, but I will say that JSFiddle is the second-highest source of Gittip widget page views. I'm especially honored because it's the only thing on their page that's not part of the a

Here's what's bugging me about this: potential conflicts of interest. Kenneth Reitz is almost certainly behind this (he's the "Python Overlord" at Heroku, as well as the author of the Requests HTTP library for Python). Kenneth is a friend o

Well, mostly I want to take this opportunity to double-check our assumptions. Does this threaten the autonomy of the communities and individuals that Heroku is giving to? This doesn't give Heroku some undue influence, does it? Does this cre

Yeah, not enough volume yet, but we're tracking data over time so we're set up for these kinds of things in the future.

That ticket is a really deep rabbit hole. :) The tl;dr is that we're adding a level of indirection: 1. There will be URLs like https://www.gittip.com/for/rails/ 2. The Internet will decide how gifts to "rails" should be allocated. 3. Comp

Nope. It was a very early design decision that gifts on Gittip are anonymous in the particulars. The idea was to remove the "why did you unfriend me?" awkwardness that only gets compounded if money is involved. We want gifts on Gittip to be

Yeah, what does it mean that it's "via general partner Jeff Jordan"? That makes it sound like it's somehow not an "official" Andreessen Horowitz investment but rather a personal investment from Jeff. Will Balanced end up on http://a16z.com

Happy customer here. I'm bootstrapping a start-up and the $100 price point was about right for me: I had a moment or two of doubt in the week or so before the call but I definitely got value out of it, and Len is "a good guy to know." Len w

Brandon's a great guy, very proactive and helpful. We didn't have quite enough volume yet (w/ Gittip) to use his services, but I have a positive opinion of him. E.g.: https://github.com/zetaweb/www.gittip.com/pull/387
