Phew, for a second there I thought we might have some transparency in our government. Glad to know that in the wake of historic video footage of public abuses, this is being taken away. Our leaders have listened and what they heard horrifie

The problem here is MacOS. The amount of work around and hacker I've had to do on Mac far exceeds anything on Linux and more surprisingly Windows. Let that sink in, it's easier to get things to work on Windows than Mac.

That's not fair. Most of what we eat today is not very tasty. Most large scale farming has chosen to overweight the genetic qualities of larger yields and hardier structures that are more suitable to shipping. In the past, regional dis

Wow, CPU is the limiting factor? I've never been CPU bound in a Web app, only I/O bound. Am I doing something wrong? Granted, I don't use python anymore for Web dev. I'm using languages that can handle 10x the traffic pe

Me knowing who someone screws is absolutely not in the public interest. A video of someone screwing that they don't want public and more specifically, didn't consent to film is also not in the public interest. Privacy is a right.

The EU courts have determined, quite rightly, that merely having an link on a website does not equate to piracy.

I'm a big believer in PostgreSQL but it does have one large and glaringly bad area which needs addressing: distribution. MySQL does Master-Master well. PostgreSQL has been a "chose your own adventure" for a long, long time. W

One of the issues with Freddie and Fannie is that they were privately owned but back stopped by the government (not explicitly.) So when they were taken over by the government, the idea was that something else would take their place. There

The biggest issue is the structure of the mortgage finance industry. They've grown so dependent upon Fannie and Freddie that there does not exist a good private alternative who can compete on equal terms. And who can blame them? I woul

I don't understand why developers put themselves on such a pedestal here. I have very few real world problems which require deep non-technical knowledge. That deep non-technical knowledge is worth something far more than, perhaps, the

What bothers me more than anything outside of the conflation of "assets" such as stocks and bonds as indicators of actual economic "growth" is that they are placing an inter-generational bet: They are using money today w

In the US, the "salary" you earn places you in the "poverty" designation of the economic earnings scale. Now do 10yrs of that and see how you would retire, buy a house or even have children any time soon.

I would say that basic economics should have predicted this. I mean, if there's an area where your children can escape poverty with a higher chance, isn't that area more desireable to live? And if so, wouldn't you pay a premi

Not completely true. There's some nuance to it but essentially you have to acknowledge it or give them cause to "revive" it, i.e. pay some of it: http://www.moneycrashers.com/zombie-debt-collectors/

Too much cash? Pay people more! Really that simple. Money has a momentum, a speed by which it flows through an economy. Eventually those mountains of capital will disappear because there is no one left to buy what is being sold.

Quick question, what's to stop someone from reimplementing, say "float: right" to also spin up a banner ad? That is, this sounds great in principal but much like Microsoft's Tay taught us, the internet is full of *-holes
