Google... really isn't that good at what they do besides sell Ads. They're just big so whatever they choose becomes the standard because 'doing what google does' not only won't generally get you fired but also impre

No-version is incredibly dumb for the simple fact that vulnerabilities exist. If you make it hard for tools like Snyk to work with your language I'm not going to recommend it to anyone. I actually like Golang in specific circumstances

I’m fine with the Apple moat. The average user is too stupid to defend a castle.

Any end-user tech that requires a listening port on the internet will: A: Never work, because NAT isn't going away (even with increased IPV6 adoption). Even locally it will work less and less because "block all incoming connection

Considering the current approval number for tubbs-in-chief, the general public are stupid. Or actively malicious, which I ran into consistently when doing internal support for a company that employed a lot of pharmacists. There are plenty o

Oh, one other great feature. There's no on-prem option besides the collectors. So someone can't get the bright idea to take it in-house (like with Splunk), wasting the time of a principle engineer for months on a project that does

Yes, for years in multiple companies. I greatly prefer it over Splunk or self rolled ELK crap. If you reformat all your logs to output as json you can "| json auto nodrop" and suddenly you have fantastic statistics off every singl

What you're describing is what I sold the company on last year (save Letsencrypt, that's weird but whatever). We only use terraform for the initial burn in (VPC, 2x public/2x private subnets, empty lb, bastion, and some subne

I will never do business with Rackspace again after they hell they put me through. When your entire security posture falls apart when one minimum wage call center employee gets bamboozled you should not be in business. Fuck that company.

Get to YT scale, then solve that problem. You're going to run into transmission problems waaaay before that.

If I scroll back in discord I can go back to the first message I ever sent to the servers I hang out on. In slack you can configure a retention period for files, messages, or both. Anything older than that gets wiped.

You could, and I'm sure some places have a business case for this. Most need stuff going back at least a little bit. If I was talking to you about something on Friday and wanted to reference the conversation Monday I'd be real mad

Because it's the Atlassian of chat tools. It's the lowest common denominator. Discord also doesn't let you set message retention that I'm aware of which is an immediate nonstarter. End up in one lawsuit where the other p

People are downvoting the other response, but it's absolutely correct. You can't hire 1:1 between the US and India and get the same quality for less money. You can try, but it won't end well.
