My favorite place I found Kermit was in the HP-48. We used 48s for data Cokely and Kermit to transfer the data to PCs. The fact that Kermit existed on the 48 was part of the Aha moment deciding to use them for the project.

It doesn’t help that their entire catalog is reduced to three songs continually recycled on Classic rock stations. I’ve seen every tour since Power Windows (‘86). All of them have been clever, funny, very professional, and respectful to the

I’ve been fortunate to see all of those bands, on the recent tour and years ago on a Prog Nation tour. Animals I need to listen some more too, not something I can pick up on in a single pass. This isn’t uncommon. I think DT is actually real

The problem is vocabulary. There's no mistake that there's a lineage from, say, C to JavaScript. Nor the lineage along the line of S-expression languages. But when folks speak of JavaScript, or Java, they never refer to them as &q

My most productive time working on DB applications was when I worked with a code generator. You laid out the entry screens, specified the tables and columns, fired off the generator and magic happens. You could slam out a basic maintenance

After some very quick butchery, WebKit turns out to be about 30M of it, just so you know next time you're at a party and it comes up during a drinking game, or something. I wonder how hard it would be to write a simple ("simple&qu

This sounds pretty nice. In Lisp, this would be considered a "tree shaker" (mind I don't know how they're plan to use this). Currently, we rely on the Java Module system to make reduced runtimes. It works, but is necessa

While there's a lot of truth to this, arguably the "done-ness" of a project has little to do with the project itself, but the intentions of the author. I have a project on the brink of release. I'm tossing it over the wa

Indeed. Take a look at the Fig Forth Installation Manual, which has the source code to Fig Forth, in Fig Forth. The source is listed as Forth screens. http://archive.6502.org/books/forth_interest_group/fig_forth...

There’s folklore, I don’t know where I heard it, or if I just made it up, so take it with a grain of salt. But the story is the Chuck Moore, when he wrote ColorFORTH, essentially started with DOS, DEBUG, and a floppy drive. And from this sp

But the ICBMs did. They also had star trackers to help them navigate, and they needed more robust maps than just the Sun and Canopus, since they had to be able to fly 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. Different problem space.

The Voyager that's flying now is not necessarily the Voyager that was launched. The hardware is the same, but they've updated, patched, and rewritten the software that's running in it throughout the years. I'm not sugges

It should also be noted that by spec symbols in the system package (like + and such) should not be redefined. This offers “unspecified” behavior and lets the system make optimizations out of the box. Outside of that you can selectively opti

It’s the issue. The ever popular syntax issue continues to haunt it. CL has had no real “unknown unknowns” for a very long time. While folks who newly discover it feel they found the gold idol in the jungle cave, the cave is, in truth, well

I think the premise here is that a 4xx is an “expected” server issue, which the code may be able to handle (i.e. retry) whereas a 200 followed by a parse error is an “application problem” that they’re not prepared to handle. A 200 may mean

SICP, as a book, is very nice. It's a great size, not too big, light and nimble to carry around. Many books, notably text books, are pretty big and ungainly. But SICP is just a really nice package. (Mind, I have not seen the paperback,
