When this was being built it was a big tourist attraction. I visited the Biosphere a couple of times that first year and I went to the ceremony for the reopen. Strange project. There was clearly some valid science and engineering that ca

Yes - same here! Started around Jan 12. Large pool of IP addresses, hard to block. Occasional brief DOS impacts but mostly just annoying errors in my logs. (if too many crop up we get automatic alerts). What was really puzzling is that

I’m surprised the 8 track cassette was still good. I remember finding an old box of 8 tracks in the late 80s and they were disintegrating. Assumed they weren’t built to last for decade plus. But maybe those were just stored poorly.

I found the headline to be misleading. The article is mostly about the migration process (which is interesting), but very little about the details of the cost savings. What does it cost to run their data center? What are the salaries the

So currently, athletic scholarships are a situation where the university commits money for tuition, and the student commits to playing the sport. This proposal has the military committing to paying the tuition. The student commits to play

The article on the round backgammon board is great. https://www.jamesrobertwatson.com/backgammon.html I like the story and photos from initial idea, to prototype, to contract, to production. He doesn't really dig i

Hardly recovered. Just a little better than last year. When my 19 year old was 2, we used to go to Santa Cruz Natural Bridges State Park, one of the spots they overwinter. The monarchs hung in thick cable-like strands from all the trees.

Agree with your sentiment, but I've always seen PUT as idempotent, not POST. Typical rest usage has POST creating new objects, and return the object with a new id. That's not idempotent. Doing it repeatedly makes new objects wit

Is it obvious to everyone else? Do colored dots stand out in the sky? Or is it a subtle thing?

The status note says this was a problem for mainland China, but I experienced the error here in the bay area. Our DataDog alerts report problems between 3:30AM and 4:00AM PT.

The thread is fascinating. What I love about it is how the discussion quickly became a variety of proposals for other generalized--and more complicated-- constructs. Lots of discussion on making a generic Mime-based embedded object for ex

Yes. But the LGPL is still more restrictive as it requires you to share your changes. Not as much of a disincentive but it still discourages community. There are two good reasons to go with a gpl or lgpl license. One is ideological. You

Good comments on each license, but misses a major point about sharing and community. Despite the rhetoric about "freedom" the GPL is a huge disincentive for developers to participate. A larger code base that contains a GPL compon

Bleach works too. Found a small decayed deer carcass by the side of the road years ago and soaked the skull in water and bleach then hung it up on my porch. Hydrogen peroxide sounds more environmentally friendly.
