You're right - I misremembered; I last actually read the report when it came out. I thought GM's Super Cruise came out on top, but it seems like Comma did!

When Consumer Reports tested a Comma 2 against ADAS from car manufacturers, it rated second best. https://data.consumerreports.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/...

No True C Programmer writes code with buffer overflows in it. It's pretty clear this is not a serious take.

It languished in government work behind a wall of extremely expensive compilers and contractors. Never heard anyone suggest RiiA - Rewrite it in Ada.

But even proficient C and C++ programmers continue to produce code with memory safety issues leading to remote code execution exploits. This argument doesn’t hold up to the actual experience of large C and C++ projects.

This would have been a lot better with a “steelman” version of the “scientism credo” rather than the exaggerated form presented. I found it pretty alienating to try to read this, even though I probably agree with the thesis on the whole.

Google does offer Windows laptops, including to engineers. I had one for a while. It made a perfectly adequate thin client to my Linux workstation and made debugging in Windows browsers significantly easier.

I think that is poorly worded. Reading the docs ( https://flet.dev/docs/publish ), much like Flutter, this compiles to an IPA for your own app that you can deploy. I think they are referring to the Flet app shell that i

The stored potential energy of a concrete block on the 15th floor of a building takes a very long time to turn back into heat.

by wffurr 2y ago
Also note that 19TW is not even mostly heat but useful work: turning motors, pumping fluids or gases, generating light and sound, etc.

No. Whatever amount of waste heat is released into the atmosphere would be so small compared to insolation that it would be impossible to measure. If it displaced all remaining coal and natural gas burning, temperatures would stabilize.

I doubt the round trip efficiency of that beats a white gas stove, but the handling is much much simpler. It's a lot easier and less hazard prone to fuel the generator than mess around with a liquid fuel stove.
