I once was using an iPhone alarm clock which would only stop ringing when I took a picture of a specific item that I registered before (I chose an eraser that was on my desk at that time). When the alarm triggered, the app persistently incr

I usually generate N bits of randomness and base58 encode it. Choose N to your liking. You loose the benefits of monotonic sorting that is present in some UUID versions. Base58 is url safe and does not contain any special characters. And yo

Does it (or will it, ie. is it planned) support delayed execution? eg. I have a task that I want to run at a certain time in the future?

It doesn't have to be 9+ separate arguments, in some languages it can be a single 'context' or 'env' object that contains just what the handler needs, something like `handleHello({ db, cache, blobStore, authz }, req

Presumably if the other object is human-controlled, they coordinate (the counter-party also has interest in avoiding collision). If the other object is debris, they coordinate with physics which is highly predictable.

Is there a legal limit how much you can fake the numbers before you are held accountable? Seems like Apple is pulling a lot of numbers out of their rear end. See also LTT's recent video about Apple quite clearly faking Mac Studio perfo

Just this past week I thought about setting up custom github runners on NixOS machines so that Nix is pre-installed (doesn't need to be installed via a github action) and so that the Nix store can be shared between runs. Though I don&#

I have given up installing node dependencies via Nix. I use Nix to make nodejs available but then install node deps with npm/yarn/pnpm. Node packages sometimes pull additional files from the internet in a postinstall script, or do

That's kindof a bad analogy. `go build` is a very high-level command. I'd compare it to going to a car dealership and asking them to 'make the car usable'. You think only a small part is broken but the dealership determi

For collaborative editing you basically have two systems how to synchronize changes: CRDT or OT. Figma chose CRDT. They wrote two blog posts about it: https://www.figma.com/blog/how-figmas-multiplayer-technology... ht

The examples on https://node-postgres.com/features/queries clearly show how to use parametrized queries. Of course you /can/ concatenate strings, no library in the JS land will prevent you from doing that. Bu

The postgres code snippet is a text-book example of how to enable SQL injection attacks. Great performance from the Vercel marketing team.

The 63 character limit is in the DNS spec, not invented by Let's Encrypt. See https://stackoverflow.com/questions/32290167/what-is-the-max... for one explanation.

Blink has forked from WebKit a long time ago and only diverged since, they should be considered two engines. WebKit itself forked from KHTML.
